He wasn’t a friend to Charlotte football, but he did contribute to the University in other ways and was an important North Carolinian. As we lose giants like Ike Belk and Spangler, I am not sure who will be there to take their place.
Definitely an interesting Charlottean who truly loved not only his alma mater in Chapel Hill but the University of North Carolina system as a whole. Certainly a salary contrast with the current UNC president who just received a nearly $100,000 raise and Spangler’s contributing his annual compensation back to the system. Of course, he could afford to do that!
clt asks what was his quote about Charlotte football?
He wasn’t a friend to us, but I’m not gonna bash him in his death. I am sure if he was a friend to Bonnie Cone he was a good man, regardless of how much I disagreed with him.
May he have everlasting peace.
