18 Game Conference USA Schedule

This board needs some discussion not about Judy/Major/etc…

So last night we found out CUSA was going to an 18 game conference schedule. Thoughts?

I don’t hate it as long as we can replace the two lost games with home and homes with two other decent to good CUSA programs. If we’re losing two OOC opportunities and still playing some terrible schools, then it’ll be a bad thing for our program.

We can pretty much count on Davidson being on the schedule every year. ECU and App probably should be as well. Three games in a preseason tournament. That leave us with 6 holes to fill every season.

The goal for those 6 spots should be 2 power conference schools, two schools decent to good mid-major conferences like the A10/MVC or top half of the MAC or Horizon conferences. Two other games should be in areas that we recruit like Georgia.

Each team will approach the shorter non-conference schedule differently. For us I hope the slack cut is the potential 300+ RPI games (NC A&T/App States).

We will still need to gamble on some decent low-major teams, like USC Upstate or Elon in hopes that they will put up a lot of wins in conference play, but sometimes you lose those gambles, like Charleston.

I kind of hope that bottom feeder teams keep their non-D1 games and drop their RPI anchor games. Teams like UAB and Southern Miss should only be playing D1 games though.

Well, one game is WKU, and they’re usually fairly decent, so there’s that.
