2011-12 Non-Conf Opponents' Schedules Thread

Of the 12 teams linked to our schedule this year, 10 have released official schedules.

WOW WE ARE ECU’S HOME OPENER!

From an RPI standpoint, yeah… 4th game if you include the non-DI schools

THOSE ARE ALL EXHIBITIONS LOLZ4DAYZ!

I don’t mean to be derogatory, and after last season I’m by no means saying we don’t need this, but does anyone else feel like this schedule is more…padded? There just isn’t much on here that gets me excited until conference time. That may just be me.

I mean yes, we get the ACC in Miami, and we get the SEC in Arkansas, but those are [in my opinion] the teams least likely to be ‘thought about’ when you think of those conferences and basketball teams.

It’s a good OOC schedule to get a young team with lots of new faces ready for conference play.

No use putting these guys through the meat-grinder, this schedule is full of winnable games.

I like having Memphis and Arkansas on the schedule, albeit during the Xmas season when we have no chance of getting them on TV, thanks to endless Xmas tourneys going that will take precedence.

Other than that, this schedule blows hard. How are we expected to get fans into Halton when we’re scheduling Kennesaw State and NC Central? There isn’t a single home game that interests me. You think it interests potential recruits? What game do we bring our recruits to show off the program? East Tennessee State?

I just don’t think you build a program these days with garbage schedules. Go big, all the time. That’s how Gonzaga became a power. They play everybody, and it forces your team to get better. And recruits come play for you because they know they’re gonna get a chance to play a BCS-style team every week, with many of them on TV. Right now there isn’t a single TV-worthy game on our entire schedule.

The home schedule isn’t sexy, but Miami coming to Halton is a good game. I’m OK with it overall for such a young team.

Overall, I think this is going to be a tougher schedule than a lot of people think. We have 7 non conference away games. That is a ton. 4 of our first 6 games on the road. We’ll see how we respond.

Here is the official release of our non conf schedule:

Road trip to Memphis on New Year’s Eve? I practiced on how to deal with Memphis fans while at the GA Tech game last year.

HotRod, Gill and I are going.

Miami and Davidson are good home games that will draw fans. Wish we could get Arkansas and Memphis here obviously.

Miami won’t draw squat on a Thursday night before Christmas. It will be the typical ho-hum usual attendees.

They better have one heck of a marketing campaign to top all campaigns to sell season tickets for this schedule. This is probably what the team needs, but it won’t sell tickets.

If we’re going to play mediocre to bad schools, can we at least get App, ECU, and UNCW on the schedule every year? At least they’ll bring some fans and generate more interest from students since their friends go to school at those places.

If I lived in Charlotte, I’d probably only go see Miami and Davidson. I’d just watch the rest online at home.

Well I agree with you - the schedule is set up so that IF we can handle business early and have a winning record going into conference play then maybe the excitement builds. Having a bunch of early tests with a young team might be a better schedule but if we get blasted early the second half of the season crowds would be awful.

My biggest problem with the schedule is that because the A10 blows if we finish 3rd or 4th in conference (i know thats asking alot at this point) the lack of OOC tests will hurt us in making post season tournys.

Xavier and Temple are likely to be very good, and one or both may be ranked when we play them. 3rd place in the conference will get you in consideration for NCAA’s, provided you don’t have a bunch of other bad losses on the record.

The other thing about our OOC is it is road-heavy, which helps the at-large resume. I think it’s going to be tougher than many of you are giving credit. The home schedule is not very tough, but the overall schedule will be ok if we’re worried about post-season considerations. We have to win some of those games though. The more experienced guys will need to step up if we’re going to win many on the road.

Thats true - just saying that because we dont have any teams in conference that are top 10 clubs we can’t lose early. In CUSA we could drop an early game to a poor team because we had the in conference quality to overcome it. We don’t now. We have to handle business early, beat the teams we should and knock off our share of the big dogs.

I think we are going for the UAB model of last year, just win games and get in.
I think we are going for the UAB model of last year, just win games and get in.
after the shit storm that was created by them getting in AND their performance in the tournament, I think the committee might err on the side of caution when choosing teams this year.

Fair enough, lets do the VCU model of last year, just win games and get in??

Making an example of UAB (who had a higher ranked rpi, strength of schedule, OOC rpi, and conference rpi than VCU) and ignoring VCU would be pretty unfair. Then again, this is the same NCAA who comes up with all kinds of bs new rules every year to try to ensure “name” teams get in and get higher seeds, so maybe they will.
