Are they changing any of the parking/tailgating lots and associated donation levels for 2015? I have heard they were looking into moving the students, and I wanted to know what the options were for 2015. I was looking into upgrading to the black lot, but want to make sure it is still a $500 (I think) donation before I cut the check.
They can poll the students, ask them where they want to tailgate, give it to them, AND, allow them to leave and come back after halftime, and it STILL wonât make a significantly positive difference in student attendance. Why? Because for some reason, the current crop of 27,000+ Charlotte students are for the most part (not all), a bunch of lame, ungrateful, unschoolspirited, twits who wanted to go somewhere else.
âUnschoolspiritedâ possibly, but a lot of that has to do with lack of tradition. With time (hopefully) that will change. What they donât realize is they could be a part of establishing tradition, not just sitting back waiting to follow what others create.
As for wanted to go somewhere else, not so much. Most students accepted could have gone elsewhere but choose Charlotte. Nearly 17,000 applied this year and 11,000 wonât be offered. The ones at the top had opportunities.
Its hard to be passionate when you have an AD that canât market itself, a basketball team that last made the dance when the majority of the student body was ages 8-12 and a football team thats only two years old and is only now adding a feature that is standard in high school stadium (attendance for 12pm kickoffs are crap around the nation, why expect any different here?)
If you gave the students a winner, they would support it, hell weâre desperate for one. Look how well we support soccer.

The biggest problem with the student attendance was the allotment was too big, and thatâs not really their fault. I think now that we are in CUSA that passion will assert itself, as we play teams that have some name recognition and become familiar with our conference opponents.

They should let the students tailgate where the old driving range is beside the Niner Walk. Regulate it (must have a tent etc.) and let them have some fun.
I agree, this would be a perfect spot. It would be similar to what Elon has leading up to their stadium. Student Orgs/ Greeks with tents set up tailgating alongside the walkway towards the stadium. It made for a nice atmosphere.
With the new alignment of Phillips Road, it will be easier to access this area. Students could drive up and drop off their gear, and make the short walk along the greenway to their spot.

Makes senseâŚitâll never happen.

Isnât Philips road closed during games? After the realignment couldnât they turn the actual road into tailgating space with tents and booths like ELon did?

Only consideration with that is if emergency or event services vehicles can get to where they need to go. Probably shouldnât be a problem if the current Phillips road segment (on the hill) is still accessible by opening a gate, etc.
Received a letter from the Foundation today itemizing my donations for the current fiscal year, reminder of what giving levels I need to be at by April 9. Seems to be same giving levels as last year. Says parking renewal info will be sent mid-April. They still list the Black lot as $500-$1,499 level, so they havenât given that to students, if that was ever an option.
