2015 Recruiting Assessment - updated 4/14/15

I still don’t agree that is the right move for this conference.

why do you assume that?
I would assume so just based on we don’t get many 6’11" guys ready to contribute from day 1. Add that it’s a euro guy with no other or limited offers (assuming) and some scout agency giving him 2 stars, he may be a guy that needs a year or so to get acclimated to college ball.

If you are going off of his high light reel, take a look at Blakely’s high school high-lights.

why do you assume that?
Unless Benas is terrible (which I’ve heard he isn’t), I just don’t see him taking minutes from upperclassmen as a freshman. Clayton is definitely most at risk to lose minutes due to his poor FT shooting, but I seriously doubt he rides pine all season.

Only so many minutes to go around in the post and we have a lot of depth there now.

Saying he’ll sit the bench isn’t me saying the kid is bad or anything, just being realistic. He’s probably a good candidate for a redshirt. Lets him get a year of practice time playing an American style. If he’s good enough to play, awesome. His position just isn’t as flexible as a guards, so it’ll be harder to find minutes for him unless he’s just an amazing player right away.

True. Maybe theirs can shoot. Our can’t. I just think this league is much more 4 guards, stretch 4 driven. I am glad we only start one big now.

You guys do realize that in college there is inherent roster turnover due to graduation/transfers. Next season yes there will be a log jam in the post but we will also lose Clayton, Thorne, and Sullivan leaving Benas and Izundu as posts and Blakley and the new commit as tweeners/stretch 4. I am of the mindset that I would rather have guys have a year in the system before we throw them out there and pray they produce. We have relied on freshman to be contributors under this regime and if this is a step in the right direction in correcting that problem I am fine with it.

i dont think its ever a bad thing to have more bigs than the other team. this works in cusa if the news guys produce.

Also, when have we ever had a problem with “too much” quality depth?

Never.

These overseas guys that come over here and sit pine sometimes have a tendency to get homesick and leave. Hope that doesn’t happen here and in the article with him commenting so much on the staff I wonder if we lose him if we fire this staff?

More concerned about the foot stress fracture. Hope that doesn’t present an issue down the road.

Can go to either hand in the post which is nice to see but the speed of his moves will need to pick up. The competition in England is horrible.

I like that we will have enough bigs to play good head-to-head practice ball. If he needs to learn the pace he will have the opportunity. Its be a while since we have been able to put together a quality 5v5 practice.

The camp website ranks the top 20 attendees, which does not include Kundrotas. FWIW, the no. 1 player was guard Jules Dang Akodo and he is now playing for a pro team in Frankfurt, Germany.

You would think the current niner coaching limbo environment doesn’t make recruiting any easier. Maybe the coaches are recruiting overseas because niner news and past ncaa history hasn’t made it to Europe on the postal boat yet.

I like the fact that he actually uses the glass !

couldn’t help but notice that!
