2016 Men's Hoops Coaching Carousel

oh man. Forgot that name.

Will Pacific now require their coaches to be drug tested along with the team?

UW Milwaukee has fired Rob Jeter after 11 seasons and an overall record of 185-170 (FWIW, one victory short of the all-time wins total by a UWM coach). Panthers were 20-13 this season, losing in the Horizon tourney to eventual league champion Green Bay.

And fellow Horizon member Wright State has parted ways with 6 year coach Billy Donlon, who also had a 20 win season (22-13). Hmm…

WKU’s coach Ray Harper has resigned. He was 89-64 in 5 seasons at the school with 2 conference tournament titles, and two NCAA tournament titles in 2012 and 2013.

clt hopes Jeter gets a nice gift bag.

Looks like 20 wins just isn’t getting it done in the Horizon League. Horizon League > CUSA?

Who did they beat?

Travis Ford out after 8 seasons at Oklahoma State, while reports are Rutgers will tab Steve Pikiell of Stony Brook as their new coach.

Meanwhile, Memphis apparently sticking with Josh Pastner although they’ve missed the Big Dance the past two seasons and average home attendance has fallen from 16,000 to just under 12,000. Firing him would cost the Tigers a $10.6 million buyout.

So far there have been 30 openings at the D-I level.

Pikiell was the Stony Brook coach. Interesting enough he played for 2 UCONN teams early in Jim Calhoun’s career with a Sweet 16 and Elite 8. God bless him for committing basketball coach suicide.

TCU has hired Jamie Dixon from Pitt.

Larry Shyatt resigns as Wyoming head coach

Butch Pierre was on that OSU staff, so he is available…Bring him back to Charlotte !!! ASAP.

Future Tulane coach, should hire him also.

Underwood to OK State. Cincy gives UNLV permission to contact Cronin.

just a question, do you think Price is going to make it without ramping up some recruiting success, lets say at least 2 notches up from what we have seen so far? Pierre could offer that chance.

In a one bid league, going to have to dominate with some talent, to get say a couple of bids over say a few years time… do we have what we need in place for this??

The staff has recruited at what appears to be a very high level so far. Really need to land 1 or 2 big men in addition Garvin to help bolster the post.

There is no doubt that Pierre is a top notch assistant.

I completely get where you are coming from amnesiac. Caught some heat yesterday for making these exact same points. Results so far in terms of recruiting guards have been promising, but we are going to need to carry that same level of success (ie Quentin Jackson Jr) to our big man recruiting efforts. I think the disconnect here with some of our fans is that landing 2 & 3 star level players at those positions (especially undersized ones) is going to allow us to dominate the league. That will not work. It’s a recipe for mediocrity, and that’s not where you wanna be with only one bid available for 14 teams.

To climb out of this quicksand, we are going to have to start recruiting like Memphis did when they dominated this league. That means regularly landing 4 star kids at multiple positions, which is a significant step up from any of our recruiting results since our heyday in CUSA 1.0. We’re not going to successfully dominate CUSA unless we do. It’s a big ask, but that’s what it is going to take. What we really need is to add a 4 star PF and a 4 star center to this class with QJ Jr. It’s really late for that to happen, and we don’t have the track record, but it didn’t stop us from landing Jackson.

I feel like with a good season, this is doable. I think our biggest recruiting obstacle now is not going dancing since 2005. Go dancing or come close this season, which is where I expect us to be, and we can do that regularly. When you haven’t been in the spotlight in 11 years it’s hard to do. Jackson is an example,if what we are capable of But we need momentum.
