Three things we learned from Conference USA in Week Eight
FAU is the real deal… Charlotte is NOT the worst team in C-USA… Never count out Southern Miss in the Rivalry in Dixie.

Charlotte avoids a winless season
For one week, the fire Brad Lambert fan club will have to settle down as the Charlotte 49ers defeated the UAB Blazers in overtime for a 25-24 win. The 49ers put it all on the line by going for two in overtime and used a trick play to get the job done.

At one point Charlotte trailed 17-0 near the end of the third quarter. Obviously the comeback victory is telling. The 49ers didn’t quit in the slightest and the coaching staff, at least for a week, made the right decisions and put the players in the right position for the win.

Charlotte can only play the role of spoiler from here on out and they’ve lived up to the role as UAB is now a longshot to win C-USA West. It was weird to see a Blazers team play with a sense of complacency. The hunger and drive we saw weeks prior just wasn’t there and it proved to be costly.

The Blazers aren’t talented enough to play through the motions and win. Charlotte was hungrier last night, and that’s why the 49ers got their first win of the season.
Underdogdynasty.com: Three things we learned from Conference USA in Week Eight (Oct 22, 2017)

Shakeup in Underdog Dynasty rankings after North Texas got thumped by Florida Atlantic. Marshall moves to #1 with FAU vaulting to #2.

Niners now #12 following win over UAB.
12. Charlotte (1-7, 1-3, LW: #13)
They freaking did it. The 49ers snapped their seven-game losing streak to start the season by doing to UAB what no other team has done so far. Play with more heart. Ben DeLuca’s strip was the epitome of that heart as it looked like Spencer Brown was going to run the clock out for Blazers. Hasaan Klugh was dynamic as a runner with 140 yards and two touchdowns and looked like the player from last year. I loved seeing Brad Lambert go for the win and I’m happy to see the decision was rewarded with the go-ahead score. Always go for two y’all.
[b]Wonder if he ever confuses the crimson tide with the war eagles. HELL NO, he doesn’t. The dumb ass.

Rankings shakeup again after the “South Florida Twins” respectively thumped traditional C-USA powers Marshall and WKU over the weekend. Florida Atlantic new #1 while Herd falls all the way to #6.

Niners still #12 and next opponent ODU is #10.
12. Charlotte (1-7, 1-3, LW: #12)
The 49ers were on a bye week and will take on Old Dominion. Somehow Brad Lambert appears to be in the clear for 2018, but he should get one more win just to be safe.
clt says all aboard the kiffin train!

Can we get UTEP on the schedule next season?

Knowing us, they’ll probably go undefeated in conference and win the CUSA championship next year

FAU and West Division champion North Texas hold on to the top spots again this week. Owls can clinch East Division and berth in C-USA title game with win over FIU in the Shula Bowl this weekend.

Niners #12 in Underdog Dynasty and #13 in The Virginian-Pilot rankings. Next foe Southern Miss #6 in both.

With FAU’s 52-24 win over FIU, the Owls win the East Division and will host West winner North Texas in the C-USA championship game on December 2nd. FAU beat the Mean Green 69-31 in their earlier meeting on October 21st in Boca Raton.

As a BTW.

During our first year of FBS, North Texas finished last in the West with a record of 1-11 and FAU finished 3-9 right above us in the East.

North Texas lost to Portland State (FCS) by 61 points, FAU pulled a Charlotte in a bunch of games in 2015.

Two years later they’re playing for a conference title and we’re probably going to finish the season with worse team than we had in our first season of FBS.

#FireJudyRose

As expected, FAU and North Texas hold on to the top spots in this week’s UD rankings per Cyrus Smith.

Niners #13.
