What changes do you see for the program next year? I would hope the Lambert has the conversation today with Mullens to tell him he is not coming back.
More FBS recruits.
I would like to see significant coaching staff changes. Definitely Mullens and/or Lambert.
Iâd also like to see us recruit a decent LB as a freshman. We seem to only get WRs.
clt says we will get deeper.
Same.

Iâm not renewing otherwise.
This staff expected to bowl. We got 4 wins.
Such an undisciplined team. 17th most penalized team in the nation, 12th in total penalty yards. This is as far as the Lambert train goes, folks.
I just donât know who we could get and expect more from. Can we compare what we are paying our guys to other staffs in the area?
I know I am in the minority here, but I would really like to see Jeff Mullens have one more year. While the Offensive line will not have been together as long, it will be a much more talented group. We return two solid backs, both QBs and many of our wideouts. If he canât be successful with next yearâs group offensively, thatâs inexcusable. Not to mention, the guy has been a good recruiter. We have as much talent at skill positions offensively as anybody in CUSA. If you donât think Jeff has something to do with that, youâre crazy.
Defensively, we just have to get better in the secondary. Our two best players there were a transfer and a true freshman. We need our 4 year guys to be better than they are. I expect a major step down on the defensive line (which scares the crap out of me) and a slight step down at linebacker. We MUST be better in the secondary if we are going to compete next year. Can anybody speak to what we return on the D-line? Thatâs the scariest aspect of this to me.
With that said, if itâs âbowl or bustâ next year there is no reason to change coordinators. If Brad is that much on the hot seat, Iâll leave his coordinators in his hands. For the record, UTSA just tied the record last night for fasted program to a bowl game in year 6. We are looking at year 5 next year. I know this opinion is not exactly popular either, but I do feel we are ahead of the curve.
Light rail will be operational for next season, perfect opportunity to bring Charlotteans out to football games, and build the fan base, if some marketing is done. Brad Lambert is a class act, hats off to him in my opinion, as an alum, I donât want wins at any cost, and NCAA investigation and scandal, I will take upholding academic integrity, I would rather see building the program the right way, and I think Lambert is doing that.
We have some exciting recruits coming in next year, and hopefully the coaching staff will be tweaked as needed, but we are headed in the right direction. Stop whining! We have built a football program from absolutely nothing, built a new stadium, have gone to FBS level, and should be very competitive next season.
A very ambitious 5 year plan. Get behind the program, these derogatory posts only serve to undermine the program, and possibly deter potential recruits. I am behind the 49ers! Get on board!

Brad Lambert is absolutely a nice guy and class act but what has he proven on the field so far? Can he consistently motivate his players, recruit FBS talent, and run an efficient system? I donât think you have to cheat to be successful. I donât think ODU or App have cheated. I donât expect us to be Boise State but I would like to see better quality football and a .500 season or better season most years.
Any word on why Olsen was put in last night?

clt can report appy just admitted to cheating.

UTSA has been light years ahead of us in terms of success. Only 1 year of FCS after starting up, then FBS records of 8-4 (sunbelt this year then CUSA), 7-5, 4-8, 3-9 (causing Coker to retire), then 6-6 this year.
In fact, their worst year (last year) was very similar to our year this year. 3-5 in conference, only difference is they played a much better non conf schedule (no FCS teams like Elon) so their overall record was not as good as ours. And that caused their coach to move on.
I guess they have different expectations there. Not a shocker.

It is kinda of hard to fire your daughters boyfriendâs father. That stinks since we need to make changes on the offensive side of the ball. I watch our team versus others and we have no idea of a game plan.
I thought it was because Klugh was getting killed

I donât know why, but sure, Iâll bite. This is not a madden video game. Play calling is much harder in real life. I know my opinions are not always perfectly in line with the shoutbox way of thinking BUTâŚ
App and GaSo dominated the Sunbelt with rosters entirely designed for FCS play in both their first and second years. I do not like to look down my nose at the sun belt, as the league has been good at the top, but it is much easier to win 8 games in the sun belt. Good on UTSA for doing that in their sun belt year.
7-5 provisional FBS year, good record and a good year. 4-8, 3-9 the next two. Our provisional year, we had two wins opposed to their 7. Our 4 win year lines up in the same spot as their four win year.
So⌠are they really light years ahead? I feel like we are a heck of a lot better than 3-9 next year. If we arenât, Iâll join the #fireeveryone train.
Everyone is freaking out about football because basketball has been so bad and we are hungry for any form of success. I am no Judy apologist, but we have to chill out on our football staff. We fired Bruce Tall because he couldnât compete with FCS teams. That was justified. Mullens overshot expectations that year. Then we moved the goal post on him. Our âJimmyâs and Joeâsâ didnât just get better because we joined CUSA. We must give this staff time to fill out an FBS roster. Look at what this senior class has done, who were recruited to be FCS independents. We averaged 25 points per game. In a vacuum thatâs not bad. In this system, itâs not good enough. Jeff knows that. That number will be higher next year. Count on it.
Lets please not make this thread about the personal lives of 18-22 year olds.

Seriously? Our 2nd year of existence we beat exactly one full scholly FCS team (NC Central), but you are downing UTSAâs 8 wins in their 2nd season because they were in Sun Belt? That makes no sense.
If you donât think that 8 and 7 wins in their first 2 years of fbs (which they had only one year to get ready instead of 2 - we actually had a head start) isnât miles different then 2 and 4 wins, we just have to disagree. You also have to disagree with, you know, math. ^-^
UTSA played in the WAC, not the SunbeltâŚbonafide FCS conference at the time except LA Tech.
Really? They had two teams ranked in the AP poll in 2012. How many ranked teams has CUSA had this year?
