Not exactly. Last 4 years (a full recruiting cycle):

Lutz: 64-62 (conference finishes of 4th, 5th, 9th, and 12th)
Cross: 88-48 (conference finishes of 1st, 3rd, 4th, and 5th)

Tubby is a pretty decent coach, and while he had a National Championship I don’t give him all of the credit because he was handed a championship caliber team. I just don’t see why High Point would hire a 66 year old coach instead of making a more long-term decision. I just hope he doesn’t come into Halton and beat us.

He’s an alum and he’s a name.

HPU has done a good job of getting the town to buy into the school as a vital part of the community (and pretty much the sole economic engine outside of furniture market), but they haven’t yet produced “sports fans.” This hire is probably directed toward that to some degree. They are trying to turn school supporters into athletic fans.

Now official.

Rumor is, that as part of his contract, Tubby’s son is head coach in waiting at high point.

clt says tubby’s son is???

LUTZ

Building an on campus arena I believe. Big name gets checks written for that cause.

Latest update.

I’d like to see Bobby get this job. He’s had success against AAC teams in the past in another school from NC, so why not give him a shot if you’re ECU?

My guess is we’d drop the annual game against them, which I’d prefer. Would hurt to actually compete against Bobby, win or lose.

After interviewing for the ECU job, Moton decides he’d rather stay in Durham.

ECU would have tripled Moton’s salary and either they decided to go in another direction and he “withdrew” to save face, or he decided that coaching the Pirates is a career ending job. Hard to know which. I would think this puts Lutz in the driver’s seat for that job.

Supposedly Moten was told Dooley was offered the job.
