2021 MBB Recruiting šŸ€

Believe this will be a 2021 recruit. Transfer from Washington State, per Jeff Goodman:

Third highest rated offensive player on Wazzou last year. Good pick up imo.

Just looking at Wazzu MBB stats for 2019-20 and Cannon listed as 8th leading scorer at 3.8 ppg.

Anyway, see that he’s from Richmond so guessing he wants to be closer to home after last two years in Pullman following a JUCO freshman year in Kansas at Barton CC.

His first year he was a little more prominent, I think.

yeah. he avg 7.9ppg as a sophomore. it sounds like an injury and a coaching change where he didn’t fit the system hurt his proudctivity as a junior.

True. Originally planned to transfer following Ernie Kent’s ouster at WSU but convinced to stick around. PT etc decreased under new coach Kyle Smith.

Are we offering a lot more players that we have in the past, or is Run just in the zone and I am seeing more of them?

juco highliights.

Cannon certainly looks explosive, quick and a good jumper. I think he can probably play good defense (which he’ll need to see the floor for Sanchez). I think he’ll contribute. Two things that might dampen enthusiasm a bit, first whether he’ll still be as explosive after the knee injury he was dealing with last year, and the point that a few WSU posters made about teams figuring out how to defend him (let him shoot from outside, stop closing down on his jumpshot so hard, which led to a lot of his high-flying scores against Washington it seemed). If he’s recovered from the injury and back to close to his original athleticism, he’ll be a big help even without good outside shooting.

Oh, and thanks for posting those highlights, I was curious about what kind of player he was.

I would consider him a 2020 recruit. He’s using our last 2020-21 schollie even though he’s sitting that season.

So basically with the talent we already have at guard and wing and those incoming we are covered and our big question is at the bigs right? If the two freshman bigs can play a bit I think we may be ok. If they and the big Anzac struggle then are we going to go be ok? Can we match last year? I have high hopes for the two freshman bigs but it’s always a toss up in year one.

I’m not sure I’d put any expectation on Anzac besides garbage minutes this year. Hopefully someone else is the answer under the basket.

I see the 2 bigs in our 2020 class getting more minutes than Anzac …I do like Supica progress but he better bring it this year

I was assuming that Supica would be performing at or above his normal effective self this year. Just wondering where the other front court minutes are going to go.

Garcia will get frontcourt minutes too. I imagine Khalifa gets a few and I imagine we play a lot of 4 guard lineups with guys like Williams at power forward.

I agree. I think we will play a lot with 1 big on the floor. This makes me worry a little about rebounding. We will have to rebound by committee.

The pack line tends to keep opponents outside the 3 pt line with us inside it, which gives us an advantage on defensive rebounding. Last year we rebounded (total) our opponents evenly (905 to 911), so as we add more athletes I expect that to move in our favor. Having a strong presence at the 4 and 5 would be great, but we can compete for the conference championship while we build towards that.
