I think Braswell is remarkably thin.
KenPom has our SOS in a different universe⦠One that looks more realistic. I donāt think anyone realistically thinks weāve played a top 20 sos. If we had played a real top 20 sos we might only have one win. 170 sounds more like it.
Too early for SOS. The way I figure it, our opponents are 22-12 against D1 teams and their opponent records were about .500 on average. So if our opponentās opponents are middle of the road and our opponents beat them average teams 2/3rds of the time, then our strength of schedule is better than 150th and likely around 100. We are 4-2 in those games and should be 5-1.
Yes, and so was Byron Dinkins .
maybe-----but the point is it certainly is not a SUPER WEAK schedule as some have claimed.
Schedule is weak as well water. Some peopleās bar is so low now anything qualifies as a positive.
Liberty isnāt bad Iāll give that. I literally dread the Duke game. If they donāt call the dogs off it will be embarrassing to the nth degree.
Look, I hope Iām wrong but stuff like winning the CBI against weak ass opponents just doesnāt impress me. Iām old and remember beating Top 25 teams and blue blood programs. We also had some wtf loses, I wonāt pretend we didnāt.
If some of yāall are happy with the state of this program, then good for you. Not me. If you wanna criticize me for it, then knock yourself out.
I donāt think anyone is happy. I also donāt expect us to go from bad to beating those top 25 teams again instantly. If we can manage to win most of the games on the schedule and ONLY drop games to like Liberty, FAU, Memphis, and Duke, that is something to be happy about. It means we are going in the right direction. Give me beating everyone we are supposed and should - then we can worry about taking the next step.
As long as I can remember we have had similar OOC schedules as we do this season with the exception of the non-D1 team. You must be forgetting the Long Beach State, App. State, UNC Asheville, Yale, Ga. St., etc. games and only remembered the P5 games. We were also a better known team so it was easier to get scheduled. We would only play 2 to 3 P5 schools per year in OOC. We wonāt know where we are until conference play. The only thing we can do is play the teams scheduled until we get better. Then we get better early season tournaments and better competition scheduled.
A prime example is FAU. Look at their OOC last year and then after going to Final 4. Night and day difference.
It appears to me the difference in the scheduling over the last 20 years or so is losing those midrange games - games against expected top conference teams, but maybe not P5 ones - the Southern Illinois games type games. Good programs, likely NCAA or NIT teams that at the time would help RPI and that were not big name teams. We seemed to schedule those games more often and as Dowless said we could get them because we were better then.
Not to mention that the Stetson H&H series is starting to look like two āthe average fan doesnāt realizeā games, after they beat Xavier at home last night.
We are worried about Duke⦠I am worried about getting swept by a cowboy hat.
Teams also change faster with the Portal. Tougher to know who the top teams in each conference are going to be from year to year.
What is also a factor is that we were in CUSA1 we had UL, Cincy, Mem St, UAB, St Lou, etc waiting on the conf schedule. We donāt have that now, Memphis excepted, so a weak ooc schedule means a weak schedule
FAU Hootie. I know the name isnāt as sexy, but that Bryant aberration aside, they are crushing opponents. Including so called power conference schools.
They still have 2 more opportunities to grab huge wins for the league. And we will see how good Liberty is when they play FAU in a few days.
I donāt think the AAC is any weaker than many of the years that CUSA 1.0 only got 2 bids, which happened a lot until those final few seasons.
clt says donāt ever forget we played Guelph
That FAU-Liberty game will be pretty interesting. Will likely reveal more about where we are than the Duke game will. Iām not sure what to think yet. We seem really limited, but weāre mostly winning the games we should. Seems like a high floor, low ceiling kind of year to me as long as we avoid too many injuries, though not one Iād want to put up against glory days. Hope Iām wrong and the team surprises us.
NA, I think you meant Stetson beat UCF. Xavier lost to Oakland last night.
I did. Oops.
