The only conclusion then is that we need to shut down basketball. We apparently cannot compete. Even though Tulane doesnât have any real NIL money for players either.
NWA blames everything on NIL because he hates it, reality notwithstanding.
Iâm not taking personal shots at anyone. I just think we did a shit job of recruiting this off-season and it shows. This team isnât showing much in terms of talent or effort.
I agree but in all fairness, our two best transfers have been hurt. Oden for the season, and nika still getting back to speed
Just appears to me Aaron can coach based on last year but the issue is talent. Normally I would put that on the coach - but in todayâs world I honestly donât know how much of that is the coach and how much is portal and NIL? What falls on the coach now? Since NIL was detached from the AD who is to blame? If you change coaches but donât significantly change NIL. resources are the results drastically different?n do we actually need to hire a GM of basketball ops to manage portal NIL and roster? Iâm clueless as to what expectations should be and what falls on who when those expectations arenât met.
With NIL coming in house that shifts a little as having close to league average for NIL should be an expectation for the AD which means finishing in the top half of the league should be an expectation I guess.
I also canât complain too much since I refuse to donate to nil.
As for money wasted @Ninercentral , I canât believe I spent $912 to watch this crap
Letâs put this loss in context. Theyâve lost to several SWAC teams this season.
Iâm sorry if Iâm wrong. I donât know what bottom barrel league some of those teams belong to.
@NinerWupAss , Iâm no coach, but if I was playing against a team with no depth and has 3 guys on the floor with 4 fouls over the last 6 minutes, Iâd quit dribbling and passing the ball around and give Braswell or Graves the ball and have them drive to the rim right through these guys.
That sounds way too much like strategy.
Iâll admit that I didnât watch as much video as some have on the core trio this yearâs recruiting class, but the injuries just wrecked what Fearne envisioned for this season. Been wondering if he should have just shut down Nika as well.
I watched exactly zero of this game as I was driving all day. All I did was get the espn update and shrugged my shoulders so have no idea how the game unfolded.
Our guys let them bitch ass punk us for 40 minutes.
Tulane played to win every possession and our guys didnt fight.
recruiting
I donât think thatâs an excuse for this game and performance, is it?
I was not impressed with the team we put on the court, as I havenât been most of the season. Whether itâs talent, effort, or both, this team doesnât measure up.
The criticism that we didnt drive on them when most of their starters had 4 fouls is a valid coaching criticism though.
Especially Graves who has a knack for drawing fouls already.
I donât expect much from this team. Effort was lacking today. We looked out of it. Have to wonder if the team has failed to come together and the rest of the year will be going through the motions. It didnât look like the team was fighting for each other.
clt says we did get the free chicken. that was a loud moment in haltron
one more point would have been nice
This team certainly isnât what Fearne envisioned when he signed Nika, Oden, and Rosado in anticipation they would be a core part of the rotation.
We may not have bodies, but letâs talk coaching.
We donât play good offense. We rarely take it to the rack and have an effective hand-off to a nearby big. We rarely take it to the rack and let the defenders collapse in position for an easy kickout. We never run double screens. Our screens werenât as soft this game but we have no pick and roll and feed the post game. Thatâs coaching. Our ball movement is not great, but we we are passing it around, there isnât enough cohesive motion either with runners causing a switch or deception to draw a defender. Thatâs coaching. By and large, on offense, we look like we play YMCA ball.
Our defense is terrible. I really donât even understand what we are trying to do here.
Also, Fearne has stopped calling timely timeouts. Basketball is a game of runs and we have a team that clearly isnât capable this season of coming back and winning from a big deficit. Fearne is letting them go far too long without calling a timeout when the other teams are on an early run. Thatâs coaching.
These things arenât about buying players (which we also need, I definitely wonât deny the talent shortage) but we have some major coaching shortfalls. In my opinion, not including the players, just pure coaching, Fearne has regressed this year.
I donât think Fearne has forgotten how to coach or does not see these things. He is pushing buttons but is not getting any responses. He looks as frustrated as anyone. He looks like a coach that is torn on a throw away year. Do I keep trying to implement my system to a team that it does not match up with because of injuries or squueze out a few more wins by going a different route with zones and slow downs to hide our deficiencies.
What I see is a team of misfit toys that does not blend well together. Our guards do not match well. Is Graves the main ballhandler or the off guard when Thomas is in? Our 5 / C dribbles too much and is loose with the ball. Our wings can not hit shots.
We can not shoot period!!! Shooting 23% from 3 with 25 to 30 attempts a game is just depressing. Our interior D players are weak and we are too slow to rotate or stop dribble penetration. It is a sad mixture for failure.
We are definitely a team of role players and I donât think these guys are performing at the level they were recruited for. No one is playing well and I really have been disappointed in Blackmon and Metsvkvarashvili. Their numbers are nowhere last years production.
As far as Graves goes. I think the new kid Cross(??) was recruited as a back up plan.
Fearne recruited a lot of one year guys so we have a lot of openings for next year and more talent. Hopefully he can do something with it.
