They ignored Lutz for over a decade after he gave everything he could give towards having a basketball program that consistently had meaningful winning seasons. Now Hill wants to use Lutz in desperation to sell tickets he could not give away.

It don’t matter anymore. Unless Mike is going to announce he is going to publicly and literally kiss Lutz’s shiny hiny on the Halton floor that Lutz once made famous, or infamous…then nobody is coming to watch a home basketball team racing towards a 20+ loss season.

Second best Niner game I’ve seen in person. The best was Maxwell against Parrish at the end of 75-76 season. Two future NBA stars and IIRC a one point game.

Niners 79-78 on Feb 28, 1976 in the QC. Sweet revenge after Centenary and Parrish (aka “The Chief”) had won 73-71 less than two months earlier in Louisiana.

At what is now Bojangles Coliseum. Our first sellout game there when the capacity was close to 11,000.

With Centenary tapping the ball multiple times around the basket for what would have been the winning basket at the horn, which could not be heard over the cheering of the crowd. It was good they didn’t make that basket because there was no way the refs could have determined if it would have been before or after time expired. Technology wasn’t like today. I believe that was even before the backboard lights that come on when the horn sounds

11k is an impressive size crowd! Was that capacity?

I remember being there for one of Mullins early teams against Wake and it was a big crowd as well.

Speaking of Robert Parrish, reminded me of some of the great players we played against at home

Keith “mister” Jennings
Mark Price
Hersey Hawkins (Bradley) 44 pts
Tyrone “Mugsey” Bogues
James “Fly” Williams
Steph Curry
Dewayne Wade

Who else?

I believe capacity for basketball was 11,666. Don’t recall if the game was sold-out but 49er1 says it was, so I’ll go with that. Bear in mind that there were no Hornets or Panthers, so folks were hungry for sports entertainment. I think we did have the Charlotte Clippers ice hockey team at that time.

Yep,11,666 was the seating capacity for basketball at the first Coliseum.

The original Charlotte Checkers were still around in 1976, though just a year from folding and leaving a minor league hockey void that would last until 1993.

1976 did mark the return of minor league baseball when wrestling promoter Jim Crockett brought the AA Charlotte O’s (Baltimore Orioles) to the QC. The Minnesota Twins and the “original” Charlotte Hornets had relocated to Florida in 1972.

BTW, see that there were 76 schools that were still classified as independent in D-I men’s basketball in 1975-76, which included the Niners and the Centenary Gents.

That ETSU game with Mister Jennings was played in the Mine Shaft on ESPN and was at midnight, I believe, someone may need to fact check that, we did have a pregame kegger😂

Larry Hughes, Steph, Robert Horry, Latrell Sprewell - that was tournament of champions but it was still on our home floor; Danny Fortson, Kenyon Martin,

A few that come to mind easily

Y’all seriously got to focus on blaming Mike for things her deserves. Fund raising and terrible extensions be first and foremost. Bobby didn’t want to have anything to do with us as long as Judy and Phil were here. So until Mike and Sharon got here any reconciliation was off the table. Once he arrived he met with Bobby and the process of bringing him back in started. Bobby and Mike will both tell you this was always the plan, just had to wait until the timing was right for both sides.

Sometimes yall just need to meet these folks and talk to them. I sat next to Bobby at the Memphis game, he comes to our tailgates. Mike stops by too. Just come ask them these things.
