2024-25 Niners Basketball šŸ€

Charlotte basketball and football could be rough until 2026-2027….yikes!!!

Sounds like a team that’s checked out. It’s one thing to have a team not talented, that plays hard, it’s another if the team couldn’t care less. Thats concerning for anyone monitoring the program. Ahem…donors and administration. Mike drank the kool aid on last years team and now has to stomach 2-3 years of bad taste in the mouth.

Guys, Mike is a great leader and definitely has been trying his hardest though.

Serious questions here:

If we go 7-24, 8-23 or 9-22 (very realistic it seems), and get blown out by Memphis on Sunday, does Fearne survive that? Should he?

Should Mike Hill survive that?

Mike should be fired. Full stop.

I gave up weeks ago. I have seen the best and worst of NINER basketball, and I must say without fear of contradiction that this team is the absolute worst since the Wissell teams were losing to teams like Eckerd College. I also think they have ā€œchecked outā€ and don’t even try any more. NINER fandom is a very painful addiction for me right now. It’s physically sickening. Very depressing.

I agree that it’s frustrating to see them go so deep in the shot clock constantly and turn down open looks.

My guess is the coaches want to keep th pace of play down to avoid getting in a foot race?

But it’s not working now so they might as well start taking the first good shot they get.

The calls for Hills firing are wasted breath. He is not getting fired until Albin fails. You may as well shut down the fire Mike Hill thread till at least mid season 26.

Hopefully baseball will be digestible this year

We can’t score, defend or rebound. We are not a good team, no talent. Transfers are a huge step down from previous players. This may be the least talented team that I can remember. No coach could win with our current roster.

Agreed, I think Hill’s future depends entirely on how Albin does.

Sunday looks like it’s going to be truly awful.

That list hits hard. It goes to show that this isn’t just about money. Sure it is part of it, but it is still not the only factor. We squandered what success we had with dumb ass decisions. And the only people that know we were ever any good, exist in a fan forum at this point.

We are the team we used to laugh at and mock.

Great list! I thought it was impossible to play quality ball at the mid major level……

No matter how many times people yell it, no matter how loud the refrain, this of course, isn’t just about NIL. It’s about failed leadership, plain and simple.

:100::100::100:

And apparently most of our fans think that happened accidentally because we just had some ā€œbad luckā€ making hires with some really smart, determined, motivated people in charge.

Yes, they really believe that.

I really worry about rebounding with ECU. That could easily show up as the deciding factor.

It definitely could. We’re an awful rebounding team (awful at a lot of things obviously). ECU is 58th in the country in rebounding…we are 378th. :face_vomiting:

Well, didn’t think the Niners, Arkansas, Butler, Cincinnati, Colorado, DePaul, Miami-FL, Minnesota, Oklahoma, South Carolina, and Texas would all have something in common at this point of the season. Pretty crazy, especially when you consider Arkansas, Cincy, and Texas were all preseason top 25.

I never said it was just NIL. What I said was I don’t really care because of NIL and the portal and because it is a huge piece of the puzzle and I wont give to it I dont really have a leg to stand on to be upset. Its caused me to emotionally detach from basketball so I just don’t have the desire to be upset at Mike.

Ive gone on record that extending Ron was moronic. I have less of an issue with hiring him. Mike was far from the only AD after him. He had multiple schools chasing him. Biff is the hire to fire him over.

Fearne to me proved he can coach last year. Talent seems to be the issue this year. What I don’t know is what is the challenge with talent? Did Aaron identify other talent and we didn’t have the money for those guys? Did we misjudge the talent we bought? Who was the determining factor on who we did sign? What role did our collective have in determining who to pay? Or did Aaron get the guys he wanted? I don’t know any of that. It used to be no talent = recruiting which was 100% on the HC.

Seems to me both basketball and football need a GM and a talent evaluation team operating separate from the coaching staffs. And that staff will cost more - money.

I didn’t see anybody ā€œchecking outā€ in game or giving up. They played hard till the end. Missed some open shots but still played hard.

I like that he switched up the starting lineup. I do think we need to play 3 guard line up.

This team, if they can get a win, can get on a run. Confidence level in their shooting, is low and it can snowball.
