Yeah we are a couple of plays from being 1-9
I want to see this last two games against the bottom of the conference. If I had to bet I think we split them but if we lose both the seat becomes hot. You canāt make excuses if we lose to FAU and UAB. Losing to either wonāt be a ringing endorsement either,
Omg he has 3 years left???
Yeah this is year 2 of a 5 year contract
These coaching contracts have to stop.
Ridiculous guaranteed salaries no matter how bad you do.
The industry needs to move to contracts with lower guarantees, outs for poor performance, more bonuses replacing big salaries etc.
Coaches salaries are out of wack just like executive pay is.
Itās ridiculous.
And the thing is. There are only a handful of coaches that are worth what they are getting paid.
For example if we had held out for a 3 year contract or a 2 year with a school option would he have not signed?
If he didnāt sign maybe we get a better coach.
What leverage did he have in the market to warrant a five year deal?
Really? I thought it was only 3 years guaranteed?ā¦ā¦.Wow, we really are naive, who was the executive search company/consulting company that made us a āmarkā and manipulated us into this deal?
Remember the firm was mentioned during the search process.
Btw, was reading the other day the best HS coaches in Georgia, guys who Win, make about $140k/yr. So how did we end up in this deal?
Firing the head coach and restarting every 3-4 years is not the answer.
I have been on this board many years and that is always the āanswerā. Fire the coach, fire the AD, fire the concession workers, etc etc. There arenāt any quick fixes in sports. It does take time to build a program.
If we are in this same spot after two more years, it might be time to move on.
As much as I hated the outcome today, if Purdie comes back next year having learned from being a barely 18 year old freshman, making bad mistakes, we can be really good.
What? How did we sign that deal?, something seems offā¦ā¦He was a volunteer Analyst at Michiganā¦ā¦
Paging @Ninercentral ā¦
Five years is pretty standard and $1 million per year is on the low side for the AAC. Not saying Biff deserved it. I think Hill thought he was thinking outside the box and doing something brilliant by hiring him. Iām not sure why we canāt just hire a normal successful head coach from FCS or someone like Skip Holtz who was successful in the past. Hill really overthinks this shit.
Whatās our updated home record vs FBS teams?
Based on my count we have only won 14 FBS home games since moving to FBS in 2015. Averaging 1.4 FBS home wins per season.
Credit to the fans who show up for that level of performance.
Thats what the portal is for. You dont need to rebuild with hs kids anymore
10 years ago, you are right. Now, with NIL and player turnover, there isnāt the building of a program like it was. Half of this roster or more will be gone. Weāve had what 70+ new players each year.
You donāt have to wait like you used to in order to see what you have coaching wise. Teams are now firing players after 1 year so why should coaches get 4?
So frustrating to see the lack of effort and continued bad coaching haunt our program. I think we all agree that the Biff experiment has failed, but I also donāt think we can fire him either. Maybe he fires some staff and getās in new talent, but Iām worried we are going to be stuck with him for another year.
Hiring Biff was always about the resources he was bringing not his coaching abilities. I think Mike would admit that he could have hired better coaches. I disagree with the approach. Football is a Sport you win in by being basic and just doing things that have been proven to be successful. We hire at the bottom of the AAC pay level, whoever we bring in next we are going to have to find more money and replace Biffs NIL connections. Just like the expansion - itās all about $$$
I think the challenge is heās a Poor leader and his staff are bad coaches.
If we lose both of the next games who knows. Assuming we win both or split I think heās back. Hopefully with staff changes.
With that said I can see him just quitting. I donāt think his heart is in it and this is way harder than He thought it would be. Now what happens and he leaves and all our NIL disappears?
Yes you can turnover a roster in one year and potentially have results but only for a year then you are back at square one again. Hate this new world as it is stacked against any team not in power 4 conferences and without bags of NIL to hand out.
I think Biff is going to have to upgrade his coaching staff. Our D has been an open highway up the middle for two years (really more if you go back to Healy). Just about every decent running back we play against gets a career day against us.
Yep. Thatās the concern.
