Elizabeth City had the ball down 70-71 with 35 seconds to go. They almost turned it over, called a TO, then had a drive with under 5 seconds left that could have easily been called a foul on ECU. Instead, home cooking prevailed and ECU barely held on.
ECSU was in the game the entire time. They never went on a big run and they never let ECU go on a big run. What they did do was steal the ball from ECU. The Pirates turned the ball over FOURTEEN times in the 2nd half alone.
ECSU had two guards - Harris and Smith that were fantastic. Believe they had literally half of ECSUs points.
What was baffling was the ECSU coach had them on the bench until like a minute and a half left to play. They were money when they were in.
Yep, I could see us going undefeated in league play at home with Memphis and USF being road games this season. Of course, we’re also likely to do something silly like lose to Rice or UTSA in Halton.
And I’ll give Fearne credit. Didn’t play the injury etc card last season even though it was a legit issue for the entire year. He’s coached long enough to know you just have to deal with setbacks when they come along.
