I follow you advocate but college sports is about the feelz, not the monetary ROI.
It’s hard to think of another “business” to compare it to. People have personal hobbies they dump money into with no ROI except personal satisfaction, but I can’t think of another situation where people, businesses and public institutions pool their money together to invest in something that loses money. I remember all of the talk early on about the market correcting itself and only paying fair market price. Neither of those are happening because it’s an arms race with everyone trying to at least not get left behind. It looks like it’s only getting worse with the P4 fighting for no spending limits.
Will see some familiar faces when the Niners make the return trip to the Windy City next season.
Somewhere there was a line that was crossed between supporting something (college sports) because it was fun, brought at least some of the school community together, to the current situation which is morphing into a hydra that may kill a school or at least damage it at some point.
The biggest think that jumps to mind is that public money in the form of state support and government loans AND student fees are used as a foundational element to support the institutions and therefore the classes that the players take and in many cases direct institutional support.
Our society has not found the right balance yet. I think we will eventually but it’s gonna be painful.
The $50M+ that the SEC will realize from the 2026 NCAAT will help soften the blow. ![]()

Okay that was ridiculous. Props to UConn.
A freshman deflected that ball and made that heave of a 3… insane.
That was so ridiculously stupid. All dook had to do was keep the ball away and dribble time off. Why the passing? They weren’t in desperation mode.
I’m sure Kentucky fans are ecstatic. ![]()
The whole thing being only giant state schools that outspend everyone is gross.

The memes from this are phenomenal.
My other favorite was a closeup on Scheyer captioned “my rizz in high school”.. which hit too close to home for me.
Interesting choice of visuals by Norlander.
