We have a supportive fan baseā¦.we need it to grow though. I will echo NWA as someone who has overestimated our level of support in the past.
We have to give the casual fans something to get excited about. The Albin hire has them curious. Thatās not enough though after all of Biffās braggadocio.
Iām more of an under promise and over perform philosophy guy. I think Albin is as well.
I dont necessarily agree with this, but I am also not overly concerned about their being a few hundred seats left from our āofficialā allotment. I expect (much like our bball games at Spectrum Center in the past) that we will be pleasantly surprised by our attendance. Also, I think it IS important to remember that while this game should be āfunā, it does come the week before an even ābiggerā game (in the casual fans eyes, at least). Also, this is Charlotte area App alums only chance to see their team in Charlotte, while our alums/fans get this opportunity 6-7 times a season. Like it or not, that makes a difference as most fans only get to 1-2 games per season.
I am not saying we dont have a supportive fanbase. The fans we do have are passionate and show out regularly, it just isnt very big. If it was we would never have had an empty stadium when the stadium is so small. FWIW i know a lot of people that dropped out of going to Chapel Hill next week in favor of this game, so I think you are right but in reverse. Probably making the rich more light blue than we all would like.
I have fallen into the trap before as well. Big city, over 100k local alums, etc. The reality is though is we have sucked in basketball for 2 decades and have lost more fans there than we have gained. Football has never made its mark. With over 100k local alums and 30k students we are sitting on a powder keg, but the majority of those thousands of fans need a reason. They arent just showing up without it. And past history shows that even when we do win this city doesnāt exactly embrace us. Now part of that was because our past leadership didnāt embrace the city and I think that has changed to a degree - but anyone expecting huge crowds from us just because I think are looking through green tinted glasses.
Now win friday and that will turn heads. Win next saturday and it turns even more.
I still wish we hadnāt added seats for Chapel Hill. Would have preferred a small crowd all green than all the light blue I suspect that bought tickets for the added seats. I hope I am wrong though.
Good Lord. Having press conferences where we canāt hear the questions makes us look very Mickey Mouse. This problem has persisted over time

My prediction is a Charlotte win, 20-17. Rutledge returns a kick for a TD, and Rutledge and Gainey each get 80 yards rushing, while Harrell adds 50 more on the ground, and 200 in the air. The defense is tough to run on, but gives up a couple of TD passes.

Playing it close to the vest until kickoff.

See where ESPN Sport Bet has it now down to Charlotte +4.5. Something is going on for sure.
More bets coming in on us, Iād assume
clt says 9.5 was just free $$$$$
Any idea if some of this gear will be available at the stadium?
