I think you misunderstand Albin. He is not saying that he is going to use a deep rotation on the defensive line because he doesnât have any true starters, and therefore than the DL is weak. He is saying that he believes any defensive lineman will perform better if the number of his snaps is limited to less than 40. The fact that he is going to rotate a lot is a sign of strength, not weakness. It means that he trusts his backups to man the position, and has no fear to put them into the game.
I expect DL to be a strength, and I expect that App St will find limited success up the middle.
To amplify what I wrote above, Iâll add that he specifically used Bradley Weaver as an example. Weaver was an outstanding DL, first team All-MAC last year, and this year he will start for Rutgers. Albin said that they tried to keep even Weaver under 40 snaps a game, and that it made Weaver a better player. It was very reassuring to me, when Albin said that they planned a lot of rotation. If they have enough good players that they can rotate 2-3 deep, all the DL will be fresh, and will perform to their peak ability. DL will not be a weakness.
It doesnât matter who is at QB for App St. He needs to be welcomed to BofA by Charlotte stopping the run, forcing him to pass, and then making him feel uncomfortable in the pocket, and encouraging him to make mistakes.
Sometimes it seems like thereâs a dedicated core of folks that lurk here and go report whatâs said here on other sites. Nice to be so relevant and influential.
