Completely agree. . I learned a lot about Chapel Hill baseball today. Much prefer Joe Templin.

I was hopeful that the terrible ending last night wouldn’t carry over to today, but so far it seems like it may have. We just had the bases loaded and no outs, and somehow managed to get no one across in a 1 run game.

The shift kills us again in the 8th. Instead of an inning ending double play, its a single that ends up costing us 2 runs and now we’re down 3-1 in the 8th…and we are 1-10 with RISP through 7…this is shaping up to be a disastrous series…UPDATE: NINERS rally in the B8 and take a 5-3 lead. Prayers answered. Come on fellas!

It wasn’t pretty but we somehow pull the win and series out. Finally got some clutch hitting in the 8th. Big series win!

Now…statistics show that the shift save .7 runs a game.
It may cost you 2 or 3 a game, but it saves .7 ! 
You said you were going to start tracking this. How is that research going?
No one ever mentions the shift when an RBI single up the middle turns into an easy double play ball.
Good to get the series win. Clutch hitting/ good ABs when we needed it most.
Frustrating that we should be riding an 8 game win streak right now. We were catching a ball in the OF away from a sweep.

Oh, we notice it…I have also noticed when an announcer says the “shift worked beautifully” because the "shifted guy makes the play, but the guy that would have been there in a normal set-up would have also still been able to make it. It just seems to me that the “metrics” sometimes seem to get skewed to make the the shift look more effective than it really is.
The shift works. Not even worth a discussion.

I’m actually on the opposite side of that one haha. The data definitely favored NOT bunting when everyone switched over to the data. The success rate of the bunt is through the roof though in this era of teams not defending it. I don’t think it’s a simple as one or the other anymore. Even a team like us is playing more small ball in recent years than when Woody first got here. You see it in the show as well. I could talk about this all day long.

I started tracking, but it was driving a stake between us, so II told myself it wasnt worrh it 
It’s all for fun. My real position on this isn’t that complicated. If people that make their living making these decisions believe in it (shifting, bunting, etc.) then that’s fine with me. They’ve got more on the line than I do.
