That’s not all there is to the financial story. He’s not going to work for VT for nothing
Of course he isn’t, he will get a 10yr deal with a ridiculous amount guaranteed. My point is, he had all the leverage. His agent should be fired. Easy conversation, my client is willing to go fishing for the next 6 yrs, term of contract, and collect your $49m he is owed or we can come to an agreement where you play him $30-25m. He is the second winningest coach in program history, was there for 10 yrs, took them to the semi-finals of CFB playoffs last year, then got canned. %9m, 18% of what he is owed? But hey, I am petty.
How much money is enough?
Maybe he just wanted to coach more than he cared about another $10-$20 million.
He either had to coach or ben in TV per his contract conditions to get paid by PSU. His contract was not like Jimbo’s who got a lump sum when he left.
We should really think about doing our contracts like that. And also include something that would prevent a fired coach from taking a coaching job for $100K just to stick it to us.
We do our contracts like that.
I thought they were saying Franklin’s contract required him to get another job in coaching or television in order to get paid. Which is smart because it guarantees someone else is offsetting part of the buyout for you. I didn’t realize our contracts required that. I was also referring to Biff making $100k at Michigan when an associate head coach at any other B10 school is probably making way more than that. Needs to be something in the contract requiring they get paid market price for the job they take.
Previous coaches have taken a lower buyout so they could take whatever job they wanted. Not sure about Biff. Would assume it’s a similar situation but who knows with him.
To clarify: that’s a lower buyout than the contract called for just so they were free of contractual obligations to us.
Do we think the Franklin hire was good for VTech?
I think its a home run for VT.
Actually, Baylor prez, you are most certainly settling for mediocrity. Can’t get any more mediocre than 36-35 overall and 5-5 this season.
Let me be clear: Baylor expects excellence, accountability and competitiveness at the highest level. We are not complacent, and we are not settling for mediocrity."

Was has he won to justify being the top paid football coach in the land?
He has come a ways financially since coaching at FAU a few years ago.
Nothing. But you ain’t gotta be Vince Lombardi to pay good players
Cal finally cut Justin Wilcox loose. Another one bites the dust.
