This is very interesting⌠Potentially very cool.
I imagine most of you know about this because of the proximity, but this is being held at Credit One Stadium on Daniel Island (Charleston), which was designed for Tennis and concerts. However, I think if the weather holds up, this should work well. Seats 10,200 so probably bigger than it looks too.
This UVA Vandy game reminds me why playing outside does suck. The court is split almost exactly in half - one end is in shade; the other side fully in the sun. Has to play havoc on your eyes running up and down that much.
This is how they will squeeze all of us out. You can be damn sure the extra NCAA bids are going to 13th place teams from over hyped leagues and the NIT bids are going to be taken from the 25-2 team from the MVC. Not that it matters anyway because most of these bottom rung power league teams turn it down.
ESPN wonât be happy until they have it down to 2 conferences that they completely control and everyone else is relegated to D3. Itâs all about maximizing their profits.
Rather than the top 12 conferences receiving exempt bids as they did in the past, exempt bids are now allocated to institutions from the top 10 conferences using Ken Pomeroyâs rankings. Each of those conferences will receive an exempt bid, with the highest-ranked eligible team from that conference guaranteed inclusion in the NIT field. In addition to the 10 exempt bids through conference qualification, the Atlantic Coast Conference and Southeastern Conference will each receive one exempt bid
The NIT will continue to award automatic bids to regular-season conference champions that do not receive a bid to the NCAA Division I Menâs Basketball Championship and maintain an average ranking of 125 or better across the selection metrics listed above.
The kicker there is the 125 ranking. There will be some very good teams that get bumped because they are like 126 because of how the ranking calculations are rigged. Personally, I think every regular season champion with a winning record should get in.
