clt says baseball can be a crazy sport.
2-2 on the week. Rough weekend but we salvaged game 3 on Sunday to limit the damage. I’m glad they showed some fight to come back and win yesterday, when they easily could have just mailed it in, especially after losing the lead in the 9th with 2 outs.
St J seemed to have our number this weekend. Their starting pitching was good and limited us offensively. They seemingly won almost every battle this series.
We had plenty of opportunities, but left 6 on base Friday, 10 on Saturday, and 12 on Sunday. Offense had been rolling, but certainly slumped some this weekend.
I thought we pitched good enough to win the series. Struggled at times but overall, we were good enough.
I don’t think St. Johns is as bad as their record. They looked pretty solid to me except maybe at the bottom of the hitting lineup. I think they will do ok in the Big East.
Well, maybe, but their first 16 games said otherwise.
St. Johns has some really nice player’s, but not as good as ours. Their averages ranged from .140 to .290 where ours were mostly .330 to .400.
We left traffic all over the bases this weekend.
We hit probably 3 balls Friday that should have been parking lot balls, but the constatant stiff winds kept them in.
It was just one of those weekends where nothing came easy.
Tomorrow night wont be easy in Columbia, but we need all our ducks in a row come the weekend and conference games.
What sucks is that because it was the last series before conference play, it locks the whole conference down to worse than they are.
We should have swept St John’s but they were not as bad as I thought they were coming in. They were swept at Arizona State and at #18 Kentucky. That’s 6 of their losses there. The UK series was actually a close series with 3 close games. Hopefully they play with the same intensity as the did against us the rest of their schedule.
Regardless, we are 13-6 with 2 mid-week games remaining before hitting conference play, with a resume win vs UVA. Last year we were 10-9 at this point.
