2026 Charlotte 49er Football 🏈

Yeah. It seems to have been marked private by the poster (Hunter) on Twitter, so the post won’t pull in here. Frustrating. I also noticed it happening with some HS recruits because of their ages (too young).

It’s the Ole Miss game. Hunter talked about them being #10. Memphis and Navy were Also Receiving Votes, and we also play them.

For amusement (and ridicule), you can find a Charlotte Depth chart here:

They seem to have accidentally gotten TE correct, but at most positions they are ludicrously wrong, and note that this was a site that was just updated, and it finally includes actual Ohio players. The point is that, as little as we know about what Charlotte will look like this fall, most people out there know far, far less. Thus, when they pick Charlotte to really suck, take it with a grain of salt, because, while they might know what they are talking about, they probably don’t have a clue.

They think Luke Sandy - believe he transferred from Wyoming, should start at LT over Fernandez. I’m just making a note of that.

Gavin Willis is our best player in their estimation.

I don’t understand some of their position grades. They gave the LBs a C, but gave them strong grades.

I think the problem in GIGO. They do have the roster into their computer now, and I’ll give them that. They next had to assign each player a score, and for some areas, like offensive line, a specific position. such as LG. No one has any way to accurately assign a score to players who have never played a down of FBS football, but their system requires one, so they had to make one. How good will any specific Freshmen or JUCO player turn out to be? Who knows… But they had to assign a score, so they made a guess. Start with a bunch of arbitrary scores, and slot people into positions and combine it into a team, and the result you get isn’t going to be meaningful.

Once the season starts, and they see players perform, and at which position, and they can update all their individual scores, and team scores, and maybe it will start meaning something. Bill Conneally does the same sort of thing, grading each player in each game to get a team performance score. He works hard at it, and has built a reputation accordingly. Perhaps CFBDepth will build a good reputation, in time, too (and go behind a paywall), but for now, it’s just a point that may turn out to be humorous, or may turn out to be useful.

It’s starting to sound like Chance WIlliams might be the starter at RB. The only film of him that I can find is from high school, a long time ago:

He’s not big, at 5-8" 180lbs (about the same as Rutledge), but he’s fast, has some power, and runs low. He’s also good in space as a receiver, or kick returner.

A nice summary of what is known, with lots of good interviews. Everyone seems quietly positive about this year. They aren’t making any claims, but they all appear excited to play. One minor thing is that he mentions that Jonathon Patterson is a Freshman, while he is actually a JUCO transfer from Navarro College.
