At 10 dollars, that is 500 people per scholarship. So, there are 1k people that are less than $500 donators, then that would be about 10k, or roughly two scholarships.
Originally posted by gamer@Jan 4 2005, 03:40 PM Right you are! It's a choice. If we were concerned with proper punctuation, we wouldn't capitalize the N in LoudNProud, would we? Actually, as he pointed out, you're talking about a name. When it comes to names, they are capitalized as the name is written. Therefore, you are gamer, since that is what your name is (in a message board context) and he is NinerLoudNProud. It is also not punctuation that you are talking about, but that's okay.

Are you thinking of something else?
I believe they were talking about the Nugget, but since I am not a 49er club member, I have no idea what that is.

According to the āmembership levelsā page on the 49er Club website, anyone giving $250 and above gets a media guide.
Full scholarship costs in state are around $9950, out of state is around $20,050.
Wow, thatās a lot more than the scholarships I applied for, and it would have covered all my costs. Is that academic or atheletic scholarships?
Iām cool with any cut backs they want to make with the pregame meals. I would rather eat Nachos and dip n dots. My kids only eat the cookies in there and my wife and I donāt drink like we used to so the mixed drinks are a waste. Put it to more practical purposes like putting guys like Itiās guardian on the payroll or buying a decent scoreboard.
Gamer,
What kinda of loser gets his jollies faking certain views on a website just to get reactions. You need to go to some Star Wars conventions or just start masterbating more. Just go away.
The issue is do you cut scholarship funding or club perks? Since the 49er Club is the āscholarship support armā of the athletic program, its mission is to provide scholarship aid to the student-athletes of UNC Charlotte, not provide an array of ever-increasing benefits to its donors. Cuts in benefits are never good, but the 49er Club isnāt USAir or Wal-Mart, so the questions remains what is the purpose of the club and who does it owe its duty to? Tuition and fees have increased by a double digit percentage in four of the past six academic years.
If $600-700 (of $1500) per Green Jacket membership goes back to the member in benefits, whats the real net value of the gift in terms of providing aid to the students? I know that at Louisville, Cincy and several other ACC and C-USA schools, meals are only provided for the BIG donors ($5000+ or more) and at many, there is no meal program at all. Want to donate $5000 Mr. Deacon fan? Hereās your newsletter, priority basketball and football ticket form, and a decal to put on your car!
At the end of the day, the gift should be philanthropic. If you are giving with the idea that you should get $1500 of āvalueā for your $1500 donation, you really donāt understand the true purpose of the club to begin with.
Quit your bitchinā guys and do something about it⦠open your f###ing wallets!!

Instate tuition and fees run about $3500/year ($1750/semester), a dorm room (cheapest option) is about $2800/year, and a meal plan that covers most every meal is about $2600/year. Throw in books at about $600/year and that adds to about $9500 for an instate. My example was using an apartment/suite on campus, which run about $3400+/year.
Outofstate is the same, but sub in about $13,500 for t/f. Everything else is the same.

Cutting benefits is a short term attempt without foresight or future.

Thereās no guarantee that increasing the benefits is going to bring in more members. We have a top 50 basketball program, yet we canāt consistantly sell out our arena when tickets are very reasonably priced. When you donāt have the money to chance the benefit increase, then you have to do the alternative and cut benefits. Those of us that give for the sole purpose of improving our program donāt mind the cuts anyway. Thatās the goal, to use the money to fund the athletic program and make it the best it can be. If I donāt get a benefit I was told I would, then thatās different. Cutting benefits that we once had is no big deal when the goal is to save as much money as possible to use where it needs to be used.

The key word in the above sentence is "where." The majority of that money should go for scholarships. I enjoy the pregame meals. It is a perk of providing support at a certain giving level. However, it has always been treated by me as the money I didn't spend at the concession stands on bad food or a fast food stop going down I-85 before a game. If I have to pay $75 to eat for the season, I'm still coming out way to the good at a game.

The facts are that the benefits eat up more and more of the donation as food/alcohol costs rise, postage and printing increase, etc. This combined with double-digit tuition increases create a need to address a solution. Growing the club is great and critical, but snapping your fingers doesnāt add members. The 49er club is not the easiest sell in the world. Does anyone here have an interest in joining the Wolfpack or Deacon clubs? Unlikely. Selling the 49er club to UNC, NCSU, Wake, etc alums isnāt impossible, but the line isnāt forming outside the foundation offices from these folks. It is a cultivation process, and thus, your efforts donāt immediately payoff.
What is the crowd like upstairs at dinner? Packed to the gills? If nothing else this is going to give those who pay the $75 a shot at getting a seat with the people they came with.

Clearly the mission of the foundation should be changed from āsupporting 49er student athletesā to āsupporting club amenities for the membersā. Since we are all in this together, how many new members have you brought to the table? Oh thatās right, thatās someone elses job ā yours is to make sure you get a tangible return on your investment.
