49er MBB Players Leaving/Returning

I’m hearing our basketball NIL pot is 1.5m

Graves got 800k

If Graves got 800k, that was a terrible investment

He’s getting 450k from creighton. I doubt we were going to give him 800k

If Graves got $800K then the system will fail because the evaluators are misreading $$ vs talent.

If Graves got $800K because that is what secondary players are now getting on the market then the system will fail because the input $$ from donors and ROI will soon not match especially with the economic uncertainty we are now entering.

These are dollar amounts? Not like Monopoly money amounts? Does this amount include scholarships? What the fuck

Just a reminder that Graves has “left the building.”

450K for Graves at Creighton sounds right. Kalkbrenner reportedly around $1.9M and, with all due respect to Nik, there’s no comparison between the two players.

I was told Graves got 800k from creighton from someone close to the team fwiw

Not worth that

My understanding is that the reason Creighton moved on from Pop Isaacs is that they couldn’t agree on a number to keep him in Omaha, which most certainly was 7 figures on his side. So perhaps the Bluejays were able to give Nik more with the former transferring to Houston. Still, Graves is at most the 3rd best of the CU portal signees.

Dude my department gets grants that an only slightly higher that that amount of money. Whole projects, professor salaries, PhD student salaries, and pieces of equipment are purchased for that amount.

This is criminal. There realistically should a cap on the funding for athletes. No where near against them getting paid, but they should be required to be paid no more than a research assistant.

People claim sports bring in money, which it does, but so does research.

Look at society. We are in an era where education and facts don’t matter. Just shout what you think the loudest and people will believe you.

As long as there are donors willing to pony up, the money is going to be what it is.

Yeah but those donations should be allocated in better ways man

Hey, if the donor is giving it specially for athletics and NIL in particular, school can’t divert elsewhere.

I guess, but all the more reason the payment should be limited to as much as an RA makes. We’re basically saying these students are more important than all the faculty on the campus.

Plus the rest of the funds can go to improving the facilities.

It’s totally ridiculous. Universities especially public ones should not in the professional sports business. It’s insane that it’s basically government owned franchises. It’s so far removed from what it is supposed to be. It makes me absolutely sick to my stomach to think they tax payers dollars and student fees are supporting this. If some donor wants to support it fine, but it’s sickening to think about where some of this money is being sourced.

Another ex-Niner headed to the Midwest. Of course, he will be closer to his Illinois home. And like Nik, will be playing for a winner.
