Quite a win for a program that has been largely irrelevant for over a decade now.

Delighted to learn that the winning goal was an own goal courtesy of the Holes.

CELEBRATING THE SENIORS

Before game action begins on Friday evening, Charlotte will be honoring six seniors: Jemone Barclay, Denis Krioutchenkov, Chadi Mayati, Alessandro Negri, Cypress Navarro-Acio, and Leo Stritter.

Most notable is 3-year starter Stritter:

Leonard Stritter | Goalkeeper | Frankfurt, Germany

Stritter joined Charlotte in 2023 after spending a season with Presbyterian. In three seasons with the Niners, he has started and played all 90 minutes in 45 games and counting. Last season, Stritter led the nation in clean sheets with 11 and ranked 17th nationally in goals against average and 10th all-time in program history. He recorded a career high six saves against High Point earlier this season, and currently leads the American Conference in saves with 38 and counting.

Its going to be so weird to see someone besides Stritter in goal. He’s been a rock for years. Would love to send him out with a 3rd straight American championship.

Under the proposal for men’s soccer, all 213 Division 1 men’s programs would still compete for the same championship, but in place of their traditional conferences, they would play regionally and within tiers of similarly competitive teams. Those tiers could change over time in a system similar to promotion and relegation.

Im just now reading about the proposal to essentially break into four 18 team FBS divisions with four 32 team FCS divisions.

This seemed like a great idea, and maybe even a model for CFB and MBB until I realized that this is just a way to force programs like ours down to the FCS level (even though our soccer pedigree deserves to be top division - I don’t trust any of the decision makers. NCSU getting a home tournament game over us last season tells you all you need to know. No way in hell will we be in the 18 teams from our region).

It’s just a backdoor attempt to push us down while maintaining reasonable regionality for the big boys.

Actually really like this idea. Yes it will originally place the power teams at the top but opportunities for programs to move up and down conferences would be so much fun and unique

If they really allow teams to move up and down, and it’s more than one at a time moves up to the top league, could be fun. I’m wary of the “off-field” metrics being used, hopefully it’s just placement in your division.
