I am a little worried about what will happen when we go to the faculty and student fourms in the Fall.

This will be the oppourtunity for people like Crystal from NineronLine and even worse, anti-sports faculty members to rip into the idea in public.

Nothing different. At the June 13th meeting, someone brought up the academic thing. He asked If there is only 15-20 academic scholorships, wont people be upset when you add a sport that has 80+ scholorships?

The response, from Judy, was that today the Athletic dept has almost 3 times the amount of the academic scholorships, and no one seems to be raising a stink about it.

Also, Mr. Teaf pointed out that whether they add football or not, it will still be 15-20 scholorships, so its not the AD problem, its something that the school needs to sit down witht the academic people about.

He also pointed out that if anything, the academic community will be getting more out of this then the sports community. He said there will be 3 hour commercials on tv for our school on saturday evenings.

Also, and this is one of his finest points (im somewhat paraphrasing):

There is a window that everyone looks through when they look at schools. Having Div 1a football creates an image of success. Look at us, were a succesfull school, with succesfull athletes. We have reached a new level. That image is the reason why the schools spend millions on football everyyear. They want that image, so when people look through that window at your school, for academics or athletics or whatever, they see sucess.

Selling stadium rights is tougher than people think in this market.

voiceover (as the blimp hovers overhead): “You are looking live at CHARLOTTE MAKE A SPLASH WATER SAFETY WEEK Stadium where today the Charlotte 49ers host the Appalachian St Mountaineers. The winner of today’s game advances to the Division IAA championship next week.”
