A-10 exhibition scores

In reading over the Duquesne game boxscore, 61 of their 108 points came from 1st year players (2 transfers and 2 frosh).

57 of Charlotte’s 92 were scored by newcomers. Should be an interesting game when we meet.

The big difference is that Duquesne lost 2 freshmen (Mitchell & Grote), a redshirt (Baldanado), and an injury-prone bit player (Thiero) - most of their players from last season remain intact. Charlotte lost a lot more, IMO. So when Duquesne’s 4 replacements score 61 points - it’s a pretty good sign for them (or it could just mean that their newcomers were given more opportunities for evaluation in an exhibition game).

Xavier plays their lone exhibition tonight against Georgetown (Ky.) and, of course, being just an exhibition that no one cares about, the Muskies get 5 pieces in their local newspaper this morning…

From Dick Weiss’ blog…

Duquesne coach Ron Everhart should make some serious headway in the balanced Atlantic 10 with two New York City kids. The Iron Dukes got 20 points from guard Kojo Mensah (a Siena transfer) and 14 points, 10 rebounds and 4 blocked shots from 6-10 Shawn James - a transfer from Northeastern - during a 129-67 exhibition victory over Seton Hill (not to be mistaken for Seton Hall) over the weekend in Pittsburgh. Duquesne shot 20 for 34 from the three.

Findlay, a D-II school in Ohio, loses to Dayton 81-78 last week, then beats Ohio State 70-68 last night. Hmmm…

Also, X gets a win last night.
