AAU Tourney at Halton Jul 6, 7

I would say wearing niner gear is fine. Like ninerfan said, I wouldn’t start any chants for players.

can we get the schedule?

Dont know how to embed a .pdf so heres the links

Tons of teams in this.

i also cannot open the schedule. can someone please post it? quite frankly. it should have been in the observer. not because it is niner related. but because it is “local sports news”. and involves players being recruited by all teams.

edit: thanks cha_49er

I’m emailing Persinger and Wertz now. Definitely should be covered. Local, state, regional players being recruited by local, state and regional major schools.

There is no rule about wearing whatever. Go GREEN, it’s open to the public. $10 per day.

This is going to be going on at the same time as SOAR? Oh boy, clusterfuck city.

maybe they will let us change our name to unc clusterfuck. we get to keep the same initials (uncc). the only remaining question is what to call the athletics teams.

clusterfuck cocksuckers.

just got back from the first day of the tournament. i went after work so i didnt get there until about 4:30. the first game i saw was oak ridge vs. garner roads. i only saw part of this game but i know we are recruiting a bunch of their players. i was impressed with michael neal and carlos rankin. neal is very athletic and rankin is fast, well built and with a good shot. i didn’t know who was who until timmy from ninerreport pointed them out so i dont have much else to say about that game. next up was team loaded with tyler lewis. his team looked a little tired as this was their second game that day. lewis had a few more turnovers than usual but still played well. had a few great passes and hit most of the shots he took. he also appears to have bulked up a bit. also on the team was jackson simmons. he didnt have a great game. he missed a few bunnies and his rebounding looked a bit sluggish. also, he is definitly not 6’8" or 6’9" he is definitly closer to 6’6". he does appear to have a good stroke though and some of this could be attributed to being tired. i will be there all day tommorrow and will give a report tommorrow. i was supposed to see terrance williams team play but they never showed up for their second game.

Actually Niner Night at SOAR is at like 9:00. If they are done then it shouldn’t interfere.

Thank you for going and giving that report.

I really wish I could get out there. Haven’t been to an AAU tourney before, just a few high school games in the last 5 years. Would be something to see how these guys play in person.

This is huge for Major and the program. Two camps/tournaments within a couple of weeks of eachother on campus. We are going after every good player that is there.

And some will want to shoot me for this BUT what if we didn’t have a Rivals guy out there watching and talking to the players and their coaches for a AAU tournament on our own campus? The writer from the U Times has joined Tim Parker out there today.

Team Loaded and Lewis demolishing who they’re playing and TL is at 18 and 12 and it’s not over in front of big name coaches, schools. All our staff is there watching.

Gary Williams, Jeff Bzdelik, Jason Capel (w/Kummer), Seth Greenburg, Blaine Taylor, Jeff Lebo – assorted assts from Tennessee, NCSU, etc

Must be kinda odd for Kummer.

How is Jackson Simmons looking?

not impressive. much smaller than i expected. only around 6’6". has a low release point which causes him to get shots blocked or not convert on three point plays. decently athletic. pretty good mid range game. average rebounder. neither game that i saw him in did he impress me. i also saw bishop daniels. this guy is definitly athletic but you see why schools are hesisitant to offer him. he plays like it’s the and1 streetball tour. not much of a jump shot and makes poor decisions with the basketball. also turns the ball over a lot. doesn’t hustle a ton but you can see the potential is there so that intrigues team. tyler lewis again looked great.

gotcha

two other prospects that i forget to mention. mike thorne, a power forward prospect for 2011 was the first. he looked about 6’7" or 6’8" and a decent wingspan. he had a really nice block and three nice dunks(although he missed one also). he didn’t get the ball much but he looked to be a good passer. had some trouble running the floor but appears to be a work in progess. also, from team loaded was andrew white. i really liked this kid. he’s about 6’5", long, very athletic and has a great looking shot.
