ACC wants to expand Big Dance + more

Been thinking about the ACC’s response to the experimental rules used in the postseason NIT and am hopeful that C-USA will too address them during its annual Spring meeting.

I was little confused about Swofford’s response to proposed changes to transfer rules. Sounded like he hadn’t been paying attention to the most recent working group proposals tying a still to be determined GPA to a one-time immediate transfer for underclassmen.

Anyway, just don’t won’t the C-USA meeting to be a memorial to first commissioner Mike Slive and more spin on how well that curtain worked!

There are already to many undeserving autobid team. Just because you win the Big South type conference in the regular season by probably one game, many time vs non apples to apples schedules doesn’t mean you should be one of the 68 best teams playing for a national title IMO. If anything the system is weighted already to heavy to those type of teams.

The RPI is weighted too heavy for the power conferences, not to mention the power conferences are not going to play a non-conference game on the road.

So the answer is let #239 RPI Hampton as well with #289 RPI NC Central for a 2 bid MEAC ? That is what would have happened this year with what you you suggested with these regular season autobids for those that don’t win the tourny. Conferences already can link their bid to the regular season champ not their Tourny if they want to like the Ivy league. If their best team loses that’s their fault.

I disagree that RPI is to heavily weighted for the P5. It’s the same formula for all and they just clearly play better SOS’s. If non P5’s don’t like that build a fanbase like Dayton, Creighton, Butler etc have that can pay as much as they can and get good OOC’s or are attractive to better conferences. It’s not these P5’s obligation to lose money and go play in a low major conference. If a low major team can’t fill a gym and justify it they still can go still find road games if they want it so bad or they could just win more. The NCAA isn’t going to leave a team out that has turely dominated no matter where they play. What inevitably happens is most of these mid majors lose WTF games and do it to themselves.

Maybe only P5 & G5 should get automatic bids for regular season & conference champions. All other conferences could choose to send one of the two as their automatic bid. In most cases regular season & conference champions from P5 conferences would get at large bids so you would really only be giving 5 more automatic bids to the G5 conferences.

The ACC wants more teams from the ACC in which means I’m against this. If it was about getting in more deserving teams I’d be fine with it, but the ACC won’t be happy until their entire league is in.

Since the ACC is the beginning and end of all things basketball, the NCAA should just allow all 15 teams into the Big Dance on an annual basis.

In fact, the ACC teams should be seeded automatically into the Sweet Sixteen. Then the final spot can be determined by a play in tournament.

clt says don’t give the observer any ideas

Interesting piece about charting college basketball shots taken from NBA 3-point range. Among a list made up primarily of power six teams are Marshall and UTSA.
