I was 18 years old and had just graduated from high school. I yearned to be able to go, but it was a dream beyond my disposable income, time, transportation, and parental permission.
Regardless, like many others like me, I was there in spirit and later was amazed when I saw the documentary about the event. Amazed at the talent, the massive crowd, the drug use, the unfettered joy, and of course, the rain and mud.
Just visited Love Valley last week. Went to see where the concert was held and the “western town”. Not much else there and I can’t for the life of me figure out how they fed and cared for the concert goers.
The promoter didn’t pay any if the performers but they showed up anyway.
I was 12 when it occurred and it was a very big deal around our part of the state.
I was there. The South’s Woodstock!
I thought August Jam was pretty close to the South’s Woodstock. Yep. I did go there.
Seem to have a theme going on recently with some of the dinosaurs (and a bit younger too) of rock:
REO in more collegial times:
Might have to place some money with UK bookies on whether or not the Gallagher brothers will end up in fisticuffs while on their reunion tour next summer. Or that they don’t even make it out of rehearsal!
Great song writer JD Souther has died at 78.
Unreal. First album in 16 years, though they’ve never stopped touring.
Whether you’re a fan of this literal rock n roll hall of fame band’s sound, or not, their longevity is amazing. Their first album came out in 1979. 45 years of making legendary music with their own sound and never catering to any industry whim or trend.
I’m a fan but also tons of respect for them.
Robert Smith has definitely been busy between The Cure albums. He did a collab with Scottish synth-pop band Chvrches in 2021:
Was at Velvet Taco at Park Road SC recently and my daughter - whose hearing is much better than mine - informed me that song was being played over the restaurant’s sound system!
And more recently, Smith did a collab with Deftones frontman Chino Moreno for the latter’s side project Crosses:
This one sucks. He was a super cool guy.
What a songwriter! Another icon passes.
