Among the topics expected to be discussed are: (1) whether to stay at the current 18 teams or expand; (2) the name of the league; (3) the potential television opportunities; and (4) how many divisions will be formed within the conference.
Do they really have 18 teams right now? I thought it was 16 or 17.

Would be very interested to know who those other 2 teams are. I think expansion to 24 teams would be the best way to go, two divisions of 12 and two subdivisions of 6.

Clearly this would require some serious conference raiding but they have so many viable markets covered across the entire countryâŚliterally Conference USA.
Football: Schedule 5 non-con games, play the 5 teams in your region once, plus 1 alternating team from the other region once. Then the winner of each region plays a championship game against the other champion in their conference. Then the two conference champions play at a neutral site to determine the League champion. Potentially 13 games + bowl.
Basketball: ~14 non-con games. Home and home with the other 5 teams in your region for 10 games, every other team in your conference once for 16 conference games. Then pit your best 8 teams from each conference against each other for the 16 team League Tournament to determine autobid for NCAA.
A little left over pride from the Mountain West. Boise St and Hawaiâi made BCS bowls and BYU had a national championship; so they somewhat justifiably think theyâre a bit better than CUSA, despite not having two of those schools anymore. I agree that the CUSA name makes sense.

I have next to zero confidence in our AD when it comes to leadership. With that said this is something that not even they can afford to screw up. I also think to some degree this is falling in our lap. If we had to wait on us to be the instigators i would be very nervous - but these guys are looking for schools. I do think that Judy and them can sell the school judging by some of the large donations we manage to get.
Also donât forget that football success or failure will speak volumes on the legacy that Judy and CHP leave. Neither of them want that legacy to be bad.
I like how weâre talking about this like weâre gonna be a part of it. I have 0 confidence that our AD can get us in this.
I often talk like we are in, but I"m normally speaking half in jest.
I think we get in, maybe not with the initial additions to the conference, but our market is too big to ignore. I also think that is why FAU or FIU, ODU, and North Texas will eventually be added as well.
The key to success is money. The key to money is markets.
If they go to the negotiating table with the likes of La Tech, App State, Arkansas State, or other programs in nowhere markets, the offer slid across the table will be a disappointment for all.
A conference like the Alliance needs to have a mix of solid programs (Nevada, ECU, Hawaii, Marshall?, USM) and good markets to get a respectable television contract.
Charlotte, ODU, and Georgia State may not give them good football immediately, but they do offer large markets that can substantially sway how much television revenue the conference generates.
If we get in, it will be mostly because of our market, not our AD.
âIt could make sense, but we donât know enough about it yet,â said Rose. âIt would certainly be of interest and be something weâd have to look at. But weâre trying to find out as much as we can about all different kinds of scenarios, all of it being driven by football
I see Metro has chimed in down in the comments section of the blog.
Is App officially looking to move up to FBS now? I thought they were still âstudyingâ the possibility of doing so.
I think they announced that they would move up when the time was right. Basically, from my understanding, âwe are open for business, please take us and weâll move up.â

Iâm glad to learn that this is all being driven by football.
