Missouri State is in the American for soccer.

That is a public school funded by state and federal dollars which is running a soccer program that does not benefit a single American based player.

As a soccer dad, I really dislike this. College soccer is becoming completely closed off to domestic players even as the support structure grows and improves with the expansion of MLS Next.

I wish there was some kind of rule that prevented programs from going all foreign based players like this.

FWIW, ten of the MSU players are transfers from US schools.

Sort of surprised it’s never happened before, especially with the NCAA sponsoring men’s soccer since the mid-1950s.

Don’t really care where they went to school before they transferred there. All programs are doing it including ours.

There are thousands of boys playing HS and high level club soccer in America who will probably be lucky to get a D3 offer at best despite being very good players, because of the onslaught of foreign based players. I draw the line at public schools. The pros protect roster spots for American players. Why shouldn’t public colleges and universities do it too?

Reading that there are 1,400 men’s college soccer programs across all divisions in which 30% to 40% are international students. Does say that the percentage of foreign players is greater among top level teams.

It is nearly impossible to get a scholarship to a high-level D1 program as an American player at this point. You pretty much have to be an absolute Superstar near lock to be an MLS draft player.

I know a kid that is an absolute Superstar and still didn’t receive any major D1 offers. He’s playing at a low to mid-level D1 and I thought he was a lock for a program like Clemson.

See that current Clemson roster is made up of 13 USA and 17 international. One of the Americans is from Gastonia and he played for Charlotte Soccer Academy.

Anyway, don’t always understand recruiting. Been wondering if Fearne was familiar with the Auusie freshman who led Portland to its monumental win over Gonzaga last night.

The kid I am talking about was CSA ECNL National Academy and one of the best players on the team. He was lightly recruited, but outplayed a senior on his college team and ended up starting as a freshman.

Clemson had him in but wouldn’t offer him. Ditto many other high D1 schools.

Marshall, an associate member of the American in swimming and diving, recently announced that the school is dropping the sport. Ironically, MU had also announced the hiring of their new diving coach less than a month ago.
