Its summer & I saw some comments in the shoutbox about Carowinds.
Am I the only person who is disappointed when I visit Carowinds?
Until this year, I had season passes for 5 straight years.
Top Gun or Afterburn, I think its called now is a very good ride. Borg (don’t remember its new name) is fun, but the line queue and load time is so slow that it takes away from the fun for me.
There are a couple of fun water slides in far back of the water park. but what else?
IMO, there needs to be more adult stuff and less kid stuff.
The food sucks.
Edcuate me on what I’m missing.
I’d much rather drive to Busch Gardens Williamsburg.
ETA: Actually kinda like Ricochet at Carowinds. Now nearly the same as Top Gun, but it is a little bit more fun than it looked the 1st time I saw it.

paramount sold carowinds to cedar point. so expect more larger and better roller coasters.

still geared towards families.
That deal closed in June, 2006. This year they added a new wave pool at Carowinds. Don’t really understand how that was more important than a “new thrill ride”?
As far as families, rides/activities will always be for families or kids 1st, but the balance seems out of whack to me at Carowinds when I compare to other parks I’ve been.
FWIW - I’ve been to Carowinds, Kings Island, Kings Dominion, Busch Williamsburg, Cedar Point, Disneyworld and Six Flags Atl.
Cedar Point is IMO the mack daddy of amusement parks.

yeah and with time they intend to make carowinds that caliber as well.
King’s Dominion is AWESOME! definitely worth the drive up to Richmond. You’ve got tons of great coasters there: Rebel Yell(dueling wooden coasters; one train is backwards), Flight of Fear, Hurler, Hypersonic XLC, and the best coaster in the park…Volcano, the Blast Coaster(http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=4vtotQ6B4IU)
i haven’t been to carowinds in over 10 years. since it’s not paramount anymore, what is the Hurler (the wayne’s world ride) called?
Not all new things are good, the Pavilion and Magic Attic gave the Strand character. Now its being replaced by more hotels just so more cold weather Yankees can invade!
i haven't been to carowinds in over 10 years. since it's not paramount anymore, what is the Hurler (the wayne's world ride) called?
we buy season’s passes to Carowinds every year. I think its fantastic. They give you VIP parking with the pass and the place is sparkling clean and landscaped inside. As for coasters, Afterburn is phenomenal and ridiculously fast. The new owners just spent a ton of cash on the Bonzi beach (but I don’t do general public water).
I don’t think Carowinds is up there with the elite yet, but I think its a darn good park.

I’ve been to Carowinds, Kings Dominion, Busch Gardens Williamsburg, and Cedar Point. I have to agree that Cedar Point is the best. Top Thrill Dragster, Maverick, and Millennium Force are the best three coasters I have ridden and they are all at Cedar Point. I would say Busch Gardens Williamsburg is the second best of the ones I’ve been to. Appollo’s Chariot was awesome too. I can’t wait to ride the Griffon.
By the way, no blast coaster at Kings Dominion comes close to comparing to Top Thrill Dragster at Cedar Point.

Go there. I LOVE King’s Dominion!
Hypersonic is no more, too much cost to maintain it and it was buried in an awkward spot in the park. When I was in HS and home for the summer during college I worked there specifically on Hypersonic and the Grizzly. Hypersonic wasn’t all that great to me but then again I test rode it everyday, and had to deal with the 3 hour line and then people bitching after the 13 sec. ride, and it always breaking down. KD isn’t bad and I haven’t been to Carowinds since I was a child but everyone always tells me KD’s better.
Volcano is a good ride, and the wooden coasters are usually pretty fun to ride.
BGW is better than both though in my opinion. Just more adult oriented. I think my dad cried the day they stopped running the monorail over to the Budweiser Brewery. We took that tour everytime we went just so my dad could get free samplings of beer. In retrospect being over 21 now it sounds like a good idea.
Metro, Hypersonic at KD would do 0-80 in 1.8 secs with 4.5 G’s straight up a 90 degree hill. It was an adrenaline rush, but was over pretty quick.
I actually work at Caorwinds as a Rides Department Assistant Area Manager. It is getting better but it takes time. I believe it will be better soon because Cedar Fair owns us now. An added bonus this year is if you buy a season pass then you get into Scarowinds for free as many times as you want. Which those who have been going to it for awhile know that you use to have to pay $19.99 when you had a season pass to go to Scarowinds. Come back and check it out this year. If you come on a Tuesday thru Thursday the lines are not long at all and Nighthawk’s (aka Borg) line is at the most a 30 min wait.

30 minutes!? I may have waited that long as a kid but there’s no way I’m waiting anywhere close to 30 minutes for a ride now. I’ll wait till the ride becomes less popular and ride it then. I don’t know, thunder road holds a special place in my heart. It was my first roller coaster. Plus I still think it’s the steepest drop in Carowinds; the first hill anyways. Anybody remember white lighting? “Lighting strikes…NOW!!” Carowinds is fine by me. My 2 year old loves the kids rides so that seals the deal. Season tickets it is. Plus with 485 done up my way, it’s only a 20 minute trip.
