Artificial Intelligence - AI Thread

“Unless you’re in the top 0.1%, you’re a peasant,” Gawdat said. “There is no middle class.”

That’s been the point of all economic policy for the past 45 years. Creating NeoFeudalism. Congrats to all the technocrat billionaire assholes. AI will make their dreams real.

99.9% of us will be serfs. We will own nothing and be completely beholden to them for everything.

If copyright lawsuits go nuts, most likely it might stifle our AI industry and allow China and others who don’t give a shit to leapfrog. I’m not sure what the right answer is there. Shouldn’t be infringing, but this isn’t a race we can get behind on either… for a lot of reasons.

clt says this is going to be an issue with AI. no one actually cared about this story, but a few jabronis on social media. then lazy media picked it up. then the cycle started.

AI is already using chat pages like this as a data source

Every company is AI First now. There is a push to not backfill positions and to make up the difference with AI efficiencies.

It does help efficiency, but not to the level execs think. I think it’s just going to be used as an excuse in the short term to cull the workforce herds and ask more of the people that are left.

Agentic AI is where the gains will be made, but it’s early there and adoption needs care and will take time.

This is only adjacent to the topic, but it’s a big deal that doesn’t get discussed enough…

I was just in DC and there are tons of these data centers out in the suburbs. They have massive power lines / stations feeding them. It’s starting to look like the Matrix.

It’s a big problem. Nvidia is the king and so they are really not innovating on the hardware front tbh. They are and they aren’t I guess. They feel a little like intel where they are taking the architecture they have and milking it for everything they can get out of it.

AMD is more efficient, but their problem is Nvidias software has become the standard. Nvidia has years of a head start. Either way, something new needs to disrupt the two of them. Quantum may be that thing. Whatever it is I hope it happens before we are leading space in our houses as satellite server space.

clt welcomes the data centers. good news for Duke and EPIC

The point here is that these data centers are not only using tons of electricity, their presence is raising rates on residential consumers so they can meet the heavily increased demand of these companies. Like Walmart paying so little that a % of their employees are on food stamps, this is another indirect way these companies are taxing all of us.

Put another way: an easy fix would be to charge them a huge premium on their power rates. I highly doubt that’s happening - have to keep the jobs / business in the state.

Then there’s the whole issue of why they need such massive data collection. That’s when you realize that data is the inventory of these companies (not products or services). Not just Facebook / Meta but Amazon and dozens more like them too.

Data center is probably a bad name for these. The real energy suck is in the compute needed for AI. Specifically Nvidia gpus.

what is crazy is I’m not sure anyone is making Monday on AI. It’s all investment. The cheap electricity is really a subsidy to these companies.

how high wtf GIF

That’s one of the problems.

execs should leave the thinking to others.

most execs don’t know their a$$ from a hole in the ground.
