Athletes choose "easier" majors

Shocking, I know! ::slight_smile:

I don’t blame athletes for choosing “easier” majors. There’s only so much time in a day.

The article isn’t shocking, but it doesn’t really talk much about the role of the coaches in “helping” the athletes choose majors. This doesn’t happen everywhere, but I’ve been at a couple places where the coaches essentially forbid athletes from choosing certain majors. For a major sport like football that requires tons of time, this might make sense, particularly if you kind of know the players aren’t likely to be Rhodes scholars anyway. But it wouldn’t surprise me if the clustering is largely due to coaches choosing for their players.

In other news, water is wet.

I don’t know if its so much as forbidding athletes [at most places] as it is “picking a major based on classes that work with the practice schedule”
