Atlantic 10 Fall Sports Predictions

The Atlantic 10 Conference released preseason coaches polls for each of its fall sports on Tuesday, and the Charlotte 49ers were highly-rated in each. Charlotte teams placed in the top five of each poll, and the 49ers were selected as potential runners-up in two of the five sports.

Both men’s cross country and men’s soccer were slotted second by the Atlantic 10 coaches, while volleyball was chosen to finish second in the East Division. Women’s cross country was picked third, while women’s soccer was selected fifth in the 14-team league.

those are wrong

charlotte is gonna dominate in every sport…they are gonna wanna kick us out of the conference because we are too damn talented hahaha lol jk

I am suprised how weak A10 soccer is, I would of thought it would be a lot stronger than CUSA.

well soccer isn’t a sport where you can always be totally dominate. Which is good i guess because you are always gonna get beat by some no name team who just plays better team ball than you one day

Tell Saint Louis that.

And HOW is that different from other sports?

you mean tell carolina that…i think they’ve won more guys national championships in soccer than any other school. not sure completely about that so don’t quote me but there aren’t that many great soccer programs because the talent is spread over sooooooooooooo many teams.

I know the Chapel Hill women have won tons of soccer matches, not sure about the dudes.

Saint Louis has the most men's soccer titles with 10, followed by Indiana with 7. Chapel Hill won it in 2001 -- 2-1 over Indiana -- for the Heels only men's title.

Regarding men’s soccer, Dayton is kind of an unknown this year with a new coach, but they just knocked off #18 Ohio State. They should be decent. Dayton has 2-3 players in the MLS right now including a rising star with Chicago. UD women should win another title.

NCFlyer...

Dayton also usually has a very strong football team. If I remeber correctly it is Non-scholarship D-1 in the Pioneer League?

Also, your signature will surely stir some debate with the locals. My wife is from Dayton and we go back and forth about the whole Wright Bros. thing. Oddly enough we were married in the shadow of the Wright Bros. Memorial in Kitty Hawk, NC!

Should we develop some rivalry with Dayton over aviation? Loser has to pay all of the winner’s basketball flights for the season?

Dayton tried to set up a game with the Heels during the 100th anniversary of the first flight. I think they blew us off…probbaly still reeling from their '68 Final Four defeat to the Flyers.

Football at Dayton has a great tradition at the non-scholraship level. It’s kinda like minor league baseball. The Flyers will be down here in Oct to take on Davidson. Gives us local alumni a chance to do some tailgating…

This is pretty lame but when we moved down to Charlotte after graduation we didn't have jobs so we would spend a lot of time in the business center of our apartment complex printing out resumes. In between we would try to match the color and font of the First in Flight on the NC license plates and print new labels for our plates which said Second in Flight. The Dayton Daily News took the debate pretty seriously during the centennial of the first flight.

Interesting thing about Dayton is they fly charter to away games. To help defray costs, selected donors are offered the chance to join the Flyers on the trips.
