Baseball Update 5/2/10

2007 Regional in Columbia was June 1-4. I remember because I got a seat belt ticket on the 1st (a Friday) on Morehead St leaving town for the game against State.

We need to move the auction back several weeks. One day we will make the Super Regionals and we don’t need the auction overlapping with the baseball team’s success.[/quote]

My bad. Looked at archives on charlotte49ers.com and game story was listed as 5-31-07.

any way we get an at large invite if we don’t win the conference tournament?

No. Our RPI is 89, and it drops with every conference game we play.

Meanwhile, the mothership’s team will likely get an at large bid and not even qualify for their own conference tournament. Go figure.

Yeah. It’s hard to leave out a top-30 RPI when the team has been a perennial CWS participant. That win against us was actually pretty big for them - they don’t have a lot of wins against the top 100.

That’s what made our matchup with them so interesting. They really needed that game for their rpi and their resume. We didn’t. It doesn’t matter who we beat ooc, we’ve got to win our conference tournament. This is likely to be the case when we travel to their place on the 18th. They’ll still be looking for wins to justify a bid.

Niners beat Musketeers 5-2

…plus GW is getting throttled by Temple in the 7th. We could have a 4-game lead by the end of the night.

EDIT: Well, a 4-game lead on GW. Rhody and St. Joes are now three games back.

Good start to the weekend!!! Go Niners!!!

By the time we play them again, we may have the conference regular season sewn up. That could make that game get a little more interesting.

Baseball team lost to Xavier Saturday and Sunday. How did we score 2 runs on 15 hits Sunday? We only had a 2 game lead over Rhode Island going into Sunday’s game. That lead is down to a 1 game lead if the Rams win today. They won the series agvainst us 2-1 so 1st place is still way too close to call. A 1st round bye is still probable since the top 2 teams receive byes. Huge series next weekend with our last 3 home games of the season.

Rhody split today, so we are still up by 2

It’s possible to clinch 1st place next weekend. It’s also possible to drop to 6th. We need a large turnout for next weekend’s home stand against St Louis.
