well, I told the story in the be careful on campus thread, but i recently looked on facebook and found the whole story from my friend’s (who got robbed) point of view, and thought that this was worthy of its own topic just so everyone who isnt aware could be made aware. this is what he said…
1:30am
I walk into my kitchen to get a drink of water and lock my front and backdoor… the minute I come out of my room 3 black males with masks on with a gun and a taser tell me to be wuite and lay facedown on my bed, otherwise they will shoot me. They rummage through my apartment going through all my stuff asking where the “weed” is, I tell them they have the wrong apartment no one here smokes weed. They grab my car keysand ask me which car is mine, I beg them not to steal my car because I am still paying for it. I don’t tell them which car is mine, (if they were smart enough they could hit the keyless entry button and find it)… They begin rummaging through my room and all my stuff, I still have my face in a pillow not knowing what they are going to do to me. My roommate Joe walks down from his upstairs room to get a glass of water they hold up the gun and tell him to be quite and they hogtie him on the couch. They then proceed to walk up stairs and tie up his Girlfriend and my other roommate Andrew. They take out their taser and begin threatening them about where the “weed” is. I am blind to this all, all I can hear is the clicking sound of electricity…
2:00am
Joe runs over pulls of the covers over my head and I untie myself… I proceed to call 911…
No one was hurt, and the car was not stolen, but lots of other things were…tvs, cell phones, laptops, etc. I’m not positive, but I’m thinking they didn’t tie Joe up, or either had some way of untying him and getting out or something…not sure. it happened at U Club Apts
This would not have happened had they been more careful…I suggest installing some type of fingerprint scanner to allow entrance into the apartment…its really the only way!
I’ve been thinking about purchasing a weapon for my own protection. I live in an apt. complex where there is a balcony that runs across all the front doors. All the apts. have two windows that are on that side of the building so no matter how high up you are, it is just as easy for someone to break into your place. My bedroom is the one that has a window facing the balcony and the idea of someone coming in through my window kinda freaks me out. So I’m thinking of getting a katana. No joke. I’ve always wanted one and if someone breaks into my place, I’ll chop their freaking head off. Man having a katana would be bad ass.
Whoever said “shoulda done this earlier” hit the nail on the head. If you don’t lock the door behind you when you go into your apartment, home, car, work, whatever, then no offense but you’re too stupid not to get robbed.
I know some people who still live in “small towns” and don’t lock their doors at night, and I’m just waiting for the call to tell me they lost everything or got murdered. Sad.
(And for the people about to type “but they could just break into your place if they want to get in,” the common criminal is looking for the easy prey. The easier they can get in, the faster they’re done and have your stuff. They don’t want to attract attention and break in.)
I dont think its a good idea to keep a katana around. Youcould provoke the guy into shooting you. If anything get a high powered taser and stun the bastard. Then tie him up till the cops come. Then you just have to watch your back.

Although failing to lock doors, etc is no excuse for someone breaking into your home, a little prevention can help alleviate these types of problems.
No one should have to constantly live in fear that all their doors are locked 24 hours a day. The police in the university area in my opinion are not doing enough to bust criminals. Most cases reported are not investigated very thoroughly. The bottom line is student 18-23 year range don’t pay property taxes or vote so law enforcement in the university area is a low priority.

No way dude. Having a katana would be awsome. It might provoke him to want to shoot me but he wont cause I'll have chopped his arm off. Some good ol' sword choppin' will teach these punks to mess with people's stuff.
LoL… seriously man. If your gonna keep something, get a taser gun. or pepper spray and then chop off his arm. You dont wanna get blow away while runnin up to him to chop of his foot
