Such lack of Confidence in getting a legitimate head coach. Mike canāt gamble this time
None of the names we see are gambles. Even brew is a former HC.
This is a very traditional football coach search from what I see.
The only name we have heard that doesnāt have HC experience is still a DC at a bigger program.
There was entire discussion a week ago on ESPN that talked about what if Ray Lewis got the job there, which he publicly said he wanted, because that seems to be the new thing with old NFL players wanting college coaching jobs like with Deion at CO, DeShawn Foster at UCLA etcā¦
yes, had Hill on my brain for so so so many reasons
Brewster would certainly be a gamble
Lewis has never coached at any level, so all that BS talk about him following the Sanders model was just that - BS. All speculation by Schefter and his ESPN cronies who went along with the ruse. Surprised they didnāt have something more to discuss like fashion, food choices, and why we should make sure our Christmas decorations are taken down and put away before New Yearās Day
Anyway, Lewis was never a candidate and a moot point now.
of course he was never a serious candidate, he expressed interest, the media had fun with it and I said it tongue and cheek
Brew might be a roll of the dice as any hire is and I dont Want him but compare his profile to Brad or Will or Biff and Brew is a traditional football coach with HC experience and knows how to recruit.
Who knows at this point. None of the past reporting has been anywhere remotely close to reality so why are we assuming accuracy right now?
Neal Brown? Proven winner as G5 head coach and had an overall winning record at WVA in the P4 Big 12.
Not pushing him, but donāt want to dismiss him either.
Maybe they are talking to him and thatās the reason for the slight delay? Could he be the name that drops at the last minute and be the hire. Iām not pushing for him either but I believe Iād be more than OK with Neal Brown!
clt says this blizzard is a good test for prospective head coaches. do they wear gloves or mittens? scarf or no scarf?
Hopefully they wear a shirt with sleeves!!
I did have a thought last night.
Part of the reason we hired fearne was to save some money. Part of the reason we hired biff was to save some money.
Economics should not be holding us back this time, and if they are, thatās an issue.
Thatās what Iāve been screaming all along. We have never paid mid range for a coach. And the staff has always been under funded.
I donāt Want to take money from successful sports like baseball or soccer and I donāt want to be app and just really support one program. Our athletes in other sports they actually do care about our school deserve better than that, but we have to find the resources to keep comp in line with our conference peers.
Mikes challenge hiring coaches IMO is mostly around his failure to increase revenue streams beyond just charge us more. And thatās an issue. We have to get the budget up to aac average across all sports.
I know people say Iāll donate more when we win, but schools that turn things around usually are able to increase funding ahead of winning. In addition to that the people that say Iāll donate when we win typically just move the goal posts and never actually step up regardless.
You canāt keep going cheap and outside the box trying to catch lightning in a bottle while failing multiple times. We need to go buy some quality tools for the job instead of hitting up harbor freight each time theirs breaks.
The opportunity costs alone are killer in how we have went about this.
We are the Dave Ramsey of college sports, we aināt hiring a coach unless we are paying cash!
Will help if we canāt stop firing coaches and owing them to not coach us. Thats the positive of being cheap I guess - we could owe them more LoL
Yup good hires pay for the next one with the buyout, see WKUās string of coaches. Theyāve only had one miss in the bunch.
Right. Weāve wasted many millions now on paying fired coaches. We donāt have a revenue problem. We have a management problem.
