Biff Poggi Fired

Yup missing out on signing day and the portal movement - not having a coach in place is bad. Really bad.

You don’t need 3 or 4 years to turn a program around. Given the portal and NIL year one should see improvement and year 2 should be bowling or really damn close. The longer the delay the bigger the impact it has on that timeline.

Next man up?
Tom Knotts, Dutch Fork, $116,562 : Knotts is the fourth-highest-paid coach in the state and has built the Silver Foxes into a powerhouse. Dutch Fork is playing in its 10th state championship in last 11 seasons and won a state-record five consecutive titles from 2016-20. Knotts also is the school’s athletic director.

And, yes. Just joking but only slightly.

The portal is not really open yet, except for players whose coaches have been fired. It opens December 9th to 28th and that you do not want to miss out on, as would really be bad. Missing the four day early signing period is not nearly as detrimental as it was before the portal era.

But that doesn’t include our current players hitting the portal. Need a coach in place to start working on the kids we wanna keep so that the roster isn’t totally depleted.

Serious question. What about Poggi getting fired made you decide now’s a good time to join the board and start posting?

Exactly. They could be willing to come back but if you let them test the waters too long they could find greener pastures.

You didn’t mention what he did at Harding, West Charlotte and Independence. Best high school football coach in Charlotte history. Wrong thread I know and NOT a candidate for those looking for updates, but he was coach at Harding when I was there so had to chime in

Hope we get some real news soon so the board doesn’t completely fall apart. Go Niners

My father was a Harding grad, albeit at the original Irwin Avenue location. Went off to Presbyterian and then the US Air Force during the Korean War.

2 wins away from another State Championship

Still don’t get why we fired Poggi before the season was over. The idea of getting a head start on a search to replace him is ridiculous. So now here we are where we’d be if he finished the season. No bowl, no signees, no new coach. And looking horrible on top of this mountain of crap.

Because Mike Hill listens to Twitter and message board chatter and all the idiots wanted it!

Hill would have found it hard to fire Poggi if he finished 5-7.

Right, because it would have shown significant progress and you can’t fire him then so instead he didn’t give him a chance. Great leadership.

Not sure that it is necessary to say that everyone that wanted it are idiots because their opinion doesn’t align with yours. You can’t point blame at the ones that have zero impact or decision making and call them idiots. Point the finger and name calling at the ones that do have such power.

Mike didn’t knee jerk because of social media or any forum. He had been considering the decision for some time, I promise you. Right or wrong, quality and thoroughness of his follow up plan aside, this is not the type of decision you wake up and make. It had been brewing for a while.

Should have fired him before the season for bailing on the team during summer camp.

I don’t think assuming he finishes 5-7 is fair either. No way we go penalty free with Biff as the HC against FAU and we saw how close the UAB game was with two fluke FG misses from a top kicker in the nation that had nothing to do with what we did.

As for firing early, it’s hindsight now. If we had locked up Petrino on Monday no one would be complaining.

If we don’t have the budget to pay at market tho I don’t know what the point of any of this is. Might as well have kept Brad. He was a nice guy and didn’t embarrass us besides not winning much.

I would have been fine if Hill had fired him after the JMU game.

And where would we be if he was fired today? Biff had to go in my opinion. Another year would not have provided any real improvement. Probably regression.

Ninerwupass, this isn’t directed to you necessarily, I see this in a lot of posts. We don’t have the money to pay what is needed in the AAC" that’s not what Mike is saying and what the industry rag’s are saying. Why do you/others think we don’t have the money? Everyone here thinks people are turning us down and dropping out of the search because we don’t have any money? Maybe, it’s something else. Maybe it’s a combo of a lot of things. We don’t know, we are not in those meetings.

Many seem to want to stay but it doesn’t appear we are giving them a us far at least.
