Some really good app discussion here.

Wonder who the Charlotte 49ers are going to hire?

Man, we go to Bank of America stadium in the Dukes Mayo Bowl on national TV and punch them in the mouth and win by two touchdowns, the broad perception will be that we are better than them, at least currently. That should be the goal. Then the next goal should be doing it again and again.

Also saw App State play soccer, albeit vs Clemson while visiting a HS buddy who attended the latter way back when. Actually ironic not playing futbol now that App is in one of the better leagues not named the ACC or Big Ten.

clt agrees, unless we are taking their coach there is no need to talk about the lowly appys

Im all for that! Love to see it. Id love to give them a ECU type of beatdown. Im not convinced it has that level of impact - but im sure as hell here for it.

It will have a big impact.
ECU had a meltdown over CLT beating them.

Yep, melted all the way down to bowl eligibility. McMurphy is projecting ECU vs NC State in the Military Bowl.

Yeah if we beat app it will give them heart burn for a few days and they will hate it, but IMO it wont shift overall perception. Now if we beat ECU 2 more times and go up 4-0 on them? Yeah that will start shifting general perception. One game is just one game if its against peer rivals. So beating App at BOA next year will be fun, but we will need to do that, then go win some of our own games and have App falter some more for that win to really shift perspectives on us. Or we need to just beat them 3 or 4 straight times.

Agree, once is not enough, but the game at BOA will have a lot of attention.
Got to start winning more overall, nothing else matters.

We need to fix our problems in football and hoops. It’s nice to be good in volleyball, golf, soccer and track and field. These sports matter to a precious few people. Baseball is probably somewhere between the two tiers.

I don’t care whether ECU and App are good or not. We need do what it takes to get better at the two sports that bring in dollars. There’s a lot of talk about money being the issue. It’s a circular type of thing. You need money to win and you need to win to get donors. It’s a vicious cycle that apparently we have no clue how to fix.

Fixing the revenue sports at Charlotte is so overdue that I can’t even think of a good analogy. We set the overdue standard here.

The Cleveland Guardians winning the World Series? Los Angeles Clippers winning an NBA title?

We are absolutely in a different world college experience pecking order from Tallahassee.

Again, I’m not exactly sure what you’re arguing. In general, I think everyone understands when a coach or player decides to go to a P5 school. (Although many were critical of Brice Williams’ decision) What we’re talking about is openly encouraging them to leave.

That’s the point I was making, not admitting it. If you want to be a big dog, you have to act like a big dog. Fake it to you make it, etc.

Yep, really good at volleyball!

Having been to FSU and Tallahassee a few times, a few when I was actually in college - I agree. Charlotte is better. They have a big football stadium but past that its subjective at best. There girls are hotter though.

Thats the thing though. Everyone knows we are faking it. We aren’t fooling anyone and we aren’t ever. EVER. Going to be the big dog. I think we just look clueless to claim other wise. I am not going to push anyone out, but I also know our place in the pecking order and barring Elon deciding to become a 49er fan I don’t see much in the way of us ever ā€œmaking itā€ no matter how much we ā€œfake itā€. Come here, win, leave and let us reload. It has worked for countless schools who are at the pecking order we are. For whatever reason we can’t seem to make it work for us in the two sports that matter and now its harder than ever before. If we played in the SEC or B10 then I think its a bit easier to no admit it because at least you are playing WITH the top tier schools. We are tier 3 at best right now and no where close to the top of that tier.

Were you at the 2 games in Boone? Both games were within 1 score inside of 5 minutes and neither one ended up with 20 point margins.

100% total bull$hot. App is NOT ahead of Charlotte in overall athletics. We are well above them in basically every other sport------now maybe you and most people don’t care about those other sports, but don’t make $hit up.

All I can tell you is even as difficult of the obstacle is to overcome, your approach is not going to help change the perception of the school. You can’t have it both ways, you can’t say we don’t like it when the Charlotte Observer calls us Little ol UNCC, then turnaround and do the exact same thing. So you do you.

I honestly can’t even spend time debating this. We’re not even top 5 in our own state. If there is one thing we do more poorly than athletics it’s having a college town atmosphere.
