Curt, i might be one of few but i really dont think i’ll miss him
Lee is disappointing half of the games.
DA, overrated?
Mitch, i hate you.
the complainin of our fans. not really umm the lack of TEAM effort. is the biggest disappointment i think. You can’t really place the blame on one particular person. GO LADY NINERS!!!
The Coaching
I’m sorry but this is ridiculous. The persistent lack of fundamentals and the more pressing lack of time spent practicing them. We have better athletes. FORGET THE DANG GAMPELAN. Play Smart Fundamental Basketball and we win 9/10 times on just scouting reports and minimal prep work. I don’t care if our guys know every cut that Richmond usually makes. I want them to know how to make a post entry pass. I want them to know what is a good shot because contrary to Bobby Boys Beliefs, they don’t have a clue what is/not a good shot. I want them to hit free throws. I want our posts to hit point blank, wide open turnaround shots. I want our guards to understand how to do an up fake without traveling. I want our posts to understand how to play straight up defense without needing help. I want everyone to rotate in the zone properly.
Am I asking to much?
Clearly, the biggest disappointment of this year will be if Lutz is still our coach in November. The biggest disappointment of last year is that Bruce Pearl made it to the sweet sixteen.
who thought losing rob moxley would be such a harsh loss to our program
Who thought our team this year would be so helpless on D??? I mean we did have the C-USA Defensive player in the year for two years in a row.
I say Curtis is the biggest disapointment this year. Definently not Mitch. Did we all expect great things from Mitch this year? Not really, but we did think that a 5 year senior would lead the team a bit more.
Curt is supposed to be one of the best low post scorers in college basketball and he has been medicore this season
Biggest disappointment is Lutz. I’ve never seen him get outcoached as much as he has this year. And I’ve never seen our guys show such little enthusiasm and heart. They don’t give me the impression that they even enjoy playing for him and he doesn’t give me the impression he gives a damn.
Sorry but Bobby gets a D- this year and the team as a whole gets a D.
When this team lost Eddie, they lost all their heart…
It’s sad no one wants to lead this team…so damn sad…
Never been a Lutz basher but I’d have to say he is the biggest disappointment this year. Was able to watch the Niners in person for the first time this year last night and that damn technical pissed me off. I don’t mind trying to fire up an unemotional team, but damn, pick the right times.
I still don’t get the Lutz doesn’t give a damn observations. I agree he has coached poorly, the team doesn’t listen, the coaches somehow can’t get them to listen or whatever but to me, the intensity is the same. If he didn’t give a damn, he wouldn’t be fighting for his team.
Early into the season he realized he has to be more involved during the game than in previous years. We have no on-court leaders. He took a more active role during the game, including calling plays, getting people into position, and motivating. It’s a shame we don’t have a player or players to do that like Eddie, Plavich, Diego, even Demon in the past.
The technicals were uncalled for, however. Terrible!

As disapointed as I am in this season, I’d have to agree with you Lefty on the “don’t give a damn” theory. He probably wants to win more tan anyone on this forum. He’s a very competitive individual and he really hasn’t exhibited less fire on the sidelines this year. In fact he’s getting too carried away on the sidelines.
That said, the season is pretty much over. We should have been able to find a way to win that game…

Good post,
If thats the case, then he needs to bench the people who won’t listen. I wouldn’t care if it was Curtis or DA. If they don’t want to be on the court then sit em.

One of my only complaints against Lutz. He doesn’t seem to punish players who don’t listen. It just seems like he knows who the most talented players on the team are and he isn’t going to put in a less talented guy no matter how out of control somebody is playing.
Then there is how he always seems to pull a guy out of the lineup as soon as he is getting hot, maybe that is just me seeing things though.
He still cares, he still yells and still gets his T’s, he is still into the game. I just think he is so incredibly frusterated by this team that he really doesn’t know what to do at times. The old Lutz Ball equation of the past just isn’t working, and he seems a little against changing his system based around what players we have. Why isn’t Alexander the focus of our offense at this point? He is the only player we have who can consistently create his own shot by driving. He gets fouled more than anyone other that Curits, but he actually makes his FT’s. These double screens trying to open up Leemire just aren’t working. And Bennett doesn’t play enough. Can anyone actually tell me with 100% certainty that Leemire is a better basketball player than Marcus Bennett right now?
The whole team is a disappointment from the coaches to all of the players (except Gordon, he has played flawless basketball this year). You can blame Lutz, but he isn’t the one shooting around 35% in home games. You can blame the players, but they aren’t the ones that insist on pressing even though we average about .25 steals per game from it and give up at least 2 open baskets every game.
My list:
This team hasn’t improved at all during the year. We continue to make the same mistakes, take bad shots, and play zero defense. I expected to see an improvement during the season, allowing up to play our best ball at the end of the year. We had a nice up tick at the very end of OC and the begining of Conf play. That has all been flushed.
I’m not sure if it is Lutz not doing what it takes, or players that just don’t listen, my guess is it is a little of both. I do have concerns about the direction we are headed if we can’t get the staff and players on the same page. If a coach can’t get HIS players on the same page, regardless of who is at fault, we have big issues.
We have too much talent on this team to be as bad as we are. We simply should not be losing to teams like Richmond, Valpo, Miss. State, etc. As others have said, PG play is a big part of that… we have guys that can score, but we struggle to get them the ball in good position. We can’t make entry passes and we rarely see our guards drive to the basket either to dish or to shoot. Mitch is great at taking care of the ball and beating the press, but that’s about it.
Our chances for an at-large bid are long gone, so we might as well get Lewis some more minutes to see what he can do. If he doesn’t get some experience this year, we can’t expect much out of him next year.
Good points about talent. We have enough talent to beat most teams in the A-10. If we don’t do that, there’s something wrong. I still think we can finish 3rd in the A-10. GW and Xavier are clearly better teams. Top 4 gets a bye. That is the goal at this point. It SUCKS going from top 20 expectations to just good enough to beat A-10 teams and hoping for a first-round bye in a desperation attempt to win the conf tournament.

Yep, that does suck, but what is even worse is we never got to get really excited about this team with such a horrible start. The life was just sucked right out of the team and the season…
