I never cease to be amazed at how many first round upsets there are every year.
I have UW-Milw to win. Bama came in all busted up.
I have Pacific over Pitt. It came down to choosing the untested team over the team that was tested and lost.
I have several pool philosphies.
I live in Big East country and I believe that you can’t be a mindless Big East sheep and win the pools. Pick against the Big East when the odds aren’t too bad and you will set yourself apart, for good or bad, from the rest of the pack.
I also stay away from picking the expected upsets (i.e. one 5 - 12 upset) unless there are extenuating circumstances (see Bama above). If you pick the wrong one, you lose two games if a different 5 - 12 upset occurs.
I also take a step back from the all the hype that the media spews about how the major conferences going to beat the snot out of the untested mid-majors. Beyond the top one, two, or three teams in a few of the major conferences, there is not much difference between a mid-major champion and a major also ran. The NCAAs are all about intangibles: heart, desire, luck, whatever.
I did 4 parlays on the casino boat last night, unfortunately 2 of them are gone (thanks 'Bama, UK).
I had Pacific over Pitt and had 'Bama in the Sweet 16. Oh well, 15 out of 16 sweet teams left. I probably should have gotten that one right, just didn’t know anything about UW-MI ('cept that Sager went there).
I was checking out everyone else’s bracket, did anyone pick us to beat state AND UCONN? Gotta love the confident niner fans… (jk I didn’t either)

I had us to the S16... i'll take that miss if it happens though, as long as we make it past friday.
That said, I also have Utah in the E8, and UTEP is mounting a comeback midway thru the 2nd half that could royally screw my bracket.

I came up with a theory to always bet/pick against your team. That way you either get money or bracket points or if your team wins you might lose money but who cares if your team just won a huge game?? Thats just my idea, although I think I picked us to beat State. I mean Duh
Mine’s not busted up, but I lost one sweet 16 team in Penn. I had a change of heart this morning and went with Bama over UMW and Penn over BC. Should’ve known they couldn’t hang with BC’s size. Glad I changed to Cincy over Iowa also yesterday. Just didn’t think they could continue their run after reviewing a few facts.
