8,000 a realistic goal for us this year? Hopefully we will crack the top 25 sometime early in the season to open peoples eyes(especially students!) and get more people to show up for games that aren’t against top 25 teams…

I don't think we'll crack the top 25 ever....not with only 9K or so seats. Most of those schools have 15K+ seats. Now, if they were doing on a % basis of the seats we have against actual ticket sales, that would be another thing.

KMA, I believe B49er is referring to the Top 25 AP and Coaches polls, not attendance. You are correct that we would not crack it in attendance unless, of course, we move to the new uptown arena. God forbid that happens except for a tourney appearance, etc.

I’m not sure what the numbers are but i believe that The average % of the student body is higher than most schools…if we have 4500 student seats and they are all full of students and there is 20k students thats 22.5% of the student body…we may not usually fill up all the student seats, but we do fill up at least half of them consistantly…which would be over 10% of the student body…thats about twice as many students that voted for the student body president. Most other schools fill up there seats from the public…which are probably alumni…
My point is that we don’t do too bad supporting our own school…we just need more community and alumni support.
here is something I found on the bobby lutz webpage that is interesting
[/QUOTE]The decided home-court advantage is in large part due to the atmosphere within the arena. In 2001-02, the 49ers students ranked 10th in the nation in attendance at basketball games while the 49ers enjoyed a record five sellouts and an average of nearly 7500 fans at every home game.

I would hope 8,000 could be achieved. I am often stunned by our poor attendence in some games. I remember us playing St Louis last year at home and being ashamed of how few students showed up.

It’s sad to think a top 25 ranking is what would have to happen to get more students out to games.
