Can someone explain what they're talking about?

Found on Memphistigers.org:

“Outside of DePaul, Memphis is the only other team who is in basic control of their Conference USA destiny.”

appears that it was written before tonight’s game.

Regardless, why would a team with remaining games vs. 2 teams ahead of them (Charlotte, Louisville) & one vs. a team 1 game behind in the loss column (Cincinnati) think the conference could even be narrowed down to DePaul & Memphis?

That’s called logical thinking in Tigerland!

Who wrote that? I don’t believe anything is set in stone yet, other than Charlotte, Cincinnati, DePaul, Houston, Louisville and Memphis being assured of being one of the 12 teams going to the C-USA tournament.
