Chanting Conference Name/Conference Pride

My roommate was at the Michigan/Mississippi State bowl game a few years ago. After the game the Bulldog fans started chanting “S-E-C S-E-C.” I told him that I thought that was lame. Then I saw Clemson started chanting “A-C-C,” after the win over UGA. I get that that was a big win for their conference, but I’m still not so sure about it.

So, where do you draw the line as a fan? I really don’t want to hear us chanting “C-U-S-A” after our first bowl win and not just because it sounds awkward. I never really cared for the A10, although I was happy when the competition improved I still never went around talking shit trash about how good the conference was. How much will you rep CUSA in 2 years? How far is too far? Just a thought.

clt says you clearly were not in raleigh when Rodney white and demon brown lead the 49ers to a victory in the nc state tourney. We were chanting cusa.

Pretty sure the “A-C-C” chant at the Clemson/Georgia game was a direct result of lots of SEC fans doing the same thing the last few years. It was a “rubbing it in their face” moment for the Clemson fans. The SEC is always the most hyped league not just preseason but usually all season long.

If you’re the best conference in football then perhaps there’s a unifying pride behind it. Since we’ve never been in a similar conference, its not something we understand?

SEC fans get it, every non-conference win elevates the entire conference. From a completely selfish point of view, if we beat ODU after they’ve beaten UNC, it reflects much better on us than if they’ve just lost to Campbell. I will pull for any CUSA team that plays anyone except Tennessee (because that’s what I grew up). I think everyone should

I would love for a “C-USA” chant to get going after our non-conference wins.

I’m all for it!!

I was there. We were chanting lots of stuff that night, especially since we had drowned out the State fans.

ACC fans have been shouting A-C-C in basketball for many years. I’ve always argued we need to pull for and promote our conference teams. I even used to pull for Cincinnati when they played non-conference games. Not only did their wins make OUR conference look strong, but they also boosted OUR rpi.

I’ll go ahead and tell you that yes, there is a huge unifying pride behind it. It’s a big deal and you love seeing the “top guys” in any conference or in the rest of the country (Nat’l Championship/BCS Bowls) get stomped by someone in your conference, especially if it’s not the top tier program. Tennessee, not so good, beats the crap out of Louisville, then you had better believe that chant comes out. Middle of the pack beats top dog… power conference.

Y’all are probably right. I must be jaded from everyone thinking that being middle of the pack SEC makes you able to beat Oregon or Ohio State any given day even though we just lost to Oklahoma State. The arrogance is unreal. I’m seriously considering on passing on my first MS State home game to stay back in the apartment and watch the Niners beat up on Chowan. I met another Niner here in town, but he works for the althetic department, not sure if it would be right to see if he’d want to skip out on his job duties to watch the alma mater lol
