Charlie Coley - 2007 sf/pf

This would be a HUGE land for us. I know some of the JUCO’s we have had in the last 5 or 6 years have kind of soured our fans on recruiting JUCO’s, but this kid is on a whole different level.

I hope his visit this weekend goes great. Bobby, take him by the front field if it’s sunny and warm, that gets a committment every time!

actually antwan and chris nance kind of did a goob job in a niner uniform. both players did intangible things that didn’t get noticed as often. Like drawing charges hustling every second and providing a huge body in the post.

I’d rather not go JUCO most of the time, but this guy does sound like a hell of an athlete. A 41" vertical is amazing. Anyone that watches the panthers knows how high steve smith can jump and his vertical is 40."

I will take my chances with a guy with a 41" vert any day. Sign him up.

You guys are pathetic, fickle and desperate. The article said he averaged 11.7 points and 10 rebounds as a JUCO. That will not translate into a STUD at Charlotte.

KenKay Jones did not put up huge numbers in JUCO and he didn’t put up huge numbers at Charlotte. But he was an amazing defender!!! If this guy has any of the hops KenKay had then we need him right away

I don’t care if they come from a high school in Kinston, a junior college in Hagerstown or if they’re from Venezuela. If they have ability (not necessarily a stat sheet) they should be able to play here.

Apparently there’s been a change:

I say he changed so he could visit the other schools and make the last one good since that’s where he will commit…

Yeah because averaging 10 rpg from the 3/4 sucks…

i say he changed due to the fact that it is Easter and it will be 28 degrees here. You kind of want to show off charlotte weather a bit, and what this school can do with a front field. Also many of the players probably go home and he wouldnt be able to play with the team.

I think you are on the money, ninerID

I hope so and not because 4 guys are leaving at Florida and he’s from Florida/always wanted to play there. Didn’t someone say Florida is showing some interest?

Good points. :shades:

So F$U and Colorado have stripper and prostitutes…and we have the front lawn. Interesting.

Many people don’t realize that juco is a bit of a different league, and therefore you have to look at stats a bit differently - sort of like how you would rate pitchers and batters differently at a level that uses aluminum bats. Guards have lofty stats in juco and big men do not. Sometimes it’s easy to look at the stats of, say, a point guard and rate him at a 4-star level. But that same point guard may wind up looking bad in the A-10 when he puts up contested shot after contested shot.

10 rebounds as a JUCO is not pathetic.

  • Cassin Diggs- is the #1 center prospect in Jucojunctions - 6 rpg. Signed with Pitt.
  • Desmond Hendrix started the season as the #1 rated center - 4.3 rpg. Committed to LSU, but withdrew his committment.
  • Jason Francis - 5.5 rpg - Is being recruited by a couple big East programs and by Rhode Island.
  • Quentin Thornton - 8.0 rpg. Signed to LSU over many SEC schools
  • Ricardo De Bem- 7.6 rpg. Signed with Texas Tech over Indiana and Tennesee
    etc.

Here is the list of the top juco rebounders - http://www.njcaa.org/sports.cfm?menu=3&sid=4&stat_type=i&gender=m&divid=1&slid=2&seasonselect=347&report_id=2269&requesttimeout=500

Ramon Clemente (a Charlotte recruiting target) is ranked #18 with 10.3 rpg. It seems like players who play the 3 or the 4 gather up most of the rebounds. They sure must take a lot of threes in juco.

***OT - Does anyone know if Leon Nelson is being recruited by anyone? He’s #2 on the rebounding list as a 6’8" PF/C Juco Freshman from Buffalo, NY. Here are his stats: http://www.njcaa.org/schmain.cfm?sid=4&divid=1&gender=m&slid=2&menu=11&schmenu=5&cid=1518&teamid=51495&athleteid=160281&seasonselect=347

Note the 2nd week in January:

01/13/07 … 7-11 (1-1 3Pt) - 17 Pts, 21 Rebounds
01/15/07 … 10-15 - 22 Pts, 15 Rebounds, 1 Assist
01/17/07 … 10-17 - 22 Pts, 20 Rebounds, 2 Assists

He caught my eye because he plays at the same community college where Charlotte ‘discovered’ Sean Colson: http://scholar.lib.vt.edu/VA-news/VA-Pilot/issues/1996/vp960229/02290455.htm (good article - scroll down to read about Colson)

Courtney Williams averaged TONS of rebound in JUCO too, but that didn’t translate to well for us.

but sleeves always seemed timid when he was on the court.

Yep.
Ranked 4th in the nation with a 12.1 rebounding average
Plus, EJ Drayton averaged less than 8 rpg in junior college. Jamison averaged 3.0 rpg in his freshman year at JUCO (hurt his foot the 2nd year). So it’s a bit of a crapshoot.

I just hope our new frontcourt is as good as their press clippings. 'Cause our top 4 rebounders (Drayton, Alexander, Courtney, Jamison) won’t be around to help them out.
