Freshman Nagy leads team, ranked No. 21

As Corey Nagy’s golf game developed at Vance High, so did the Charlotte 49ers’ men’s golf program.

Very nice. Thanks for the coverage!

All the golf fans are probably over at the Wachovia Championship today. I don’t play much golf, but I still like to read about Charlotte teams, especially when they’re doing well.

I thought Sheedy was our best golfer. And now he’s not even starting. Does that mean he doesn’t get to play in the A-10 tournaments this weekend?

Thanks Jim. I read it this morning in the paper. Big day of golf in Charlotte and at Charlotte. I like how the A-10 conf tournament is in Florida.

Thanks Jim. Nice article.

N1NER - correct he is not playing the A-10 tournament.

Coach Green seems to have a BIG problem - too many good golfers. Every tournament he seems to take a different line-up. I bet if he could take 8 to tournaments instead of 5 they’d win’em all! Sucks the A-10 can’t get off their butts and get live scoring from the tournament.

Wow, you always seem to surface when there is a post about golf… And it is almost the exact same same post the last times. Good to see golf has a following here!

The nature of how you qualify for tournaments is actually the best way to get your “golfers that are playing the best at that time”. If it is like when I played there, you automatically take the 4 lowest scoring players from the last event and then the rest of the team qualifies for the last spot. Consistency is key to golf, so your better players are usually the ones who qualify. I talked with Jamie about a high school soph that plays on my son’s team that averaged 70.2 for the season and ran away with the conference title by 22 shots. The team won the conference by 54 shots. I was hoping to get Jamie up to look at some of our players including my son Monday for the Western 4A regionals, but they will just be getting back from their conference tourney. I have a strong feeling Charlotte will win this hands down. Best regards, Oldniner

UNOFFICIAL scores so far:

Mincer 64
DiBitetto 67
Nagy 71

Charlotte is up by four strokes after round one and senior Matt Mincer blistered the course with a new school-record of -8, 64 (lowest single round in Charlotte 49ers history) … Course record is 63.

Someone likes Orange County National!

Those are some unreal scores. Got any updates on the other 2 scores?

Jonas shot a 73 and Stefan a 74 to round out the scoring. Shooting 64 (one shot off course record) is pretty impressive given the venue. Q school has been there 3 of the past 5 years, so some VERY good golfers have come through there.

What is the length of the courses that our guys usually play on?
What is the length of the courses that our guys usually play on?
I think they play between 6800-7000 yards. Orange County is playing 6849.
Individually, behind the strength of nine birdies on the afternoon, senior Matt Mincer (Lenior City, Tenn.) of Charlotte tied the A-10 18-hole record carding a 64 on the day, which is just one stroke off the course record. Mincer’s 64 is the lowest opening round score recorded in the A-10 Championship and ties Xavier’s Tim Donovan who shot a 64 on day two at Penn National in 2001.
